WebAfrica Capped ADSL

The response I got from WA, so they are still having congestion issues.

"Some of our customers may experience slow ADSL speeds owing to congestion being experienced by our upstream provider. Webafrica is in contact with our provider and is monitoring the situation. We apologise to any customers who might experience speeds slower than what they are used to and we will endeavour to get back to normal as soon as possible."

"I followed this up with our Network Engineers, they believe the issue should be resolved within the next few days. "

Hi Hecate,

I'm not sure where your received this response from because we're not experiencing issues and the issue we were experiencing with our upstream provider has been resolved.

Is there a particular reason for any shaping at all on a capped account? If you have a capped monthly allocation you should be able to use whenever or wherever until finished.
In this day and age if I want to use 10gb of a 50gb cap within 2 days during the day, I should be able to do it on a capped account. Just my view.

Response from yourselves to a ticked I opened on the 26th. Ticket #2592973

I agree.

But we must just keep paying, the glorious ISP will decide what we can use on the net and when.

Hi Convex,

Your account is not throttled. We don't throttle Capped accounts, the service is shaped according to bandwidth priority profiles and protocols.

Picky picky.

OP apparently cannot access his bandwidth. May I suggest that - rather than being critical of his terminology - you work with him to resolve his issue.

Hi howardb,

We sell our Capped packages as shaped. We have never professed or claimed that the Capped packages are unshapped - apart - from the Business Capped Pro. Moreover, we prioritise our network so that Business packages and important protocols are not affected. Hence, P2P and NNTP are offered as a best effort protocols.

Hi Hecate,

Thank you for getting back to me with the ticket number. I've addressed this miscommunication with the agent involved and sorry for the confusion. The network issues have been resolved and to answer your question regarding the NNTP and P2P: these protocols are shaped based on the netowrk availability.

I do understand the shaping based on network availability and I do not expect full line speed during the day, the question was why does the network only becoming "available" at 12:00 in the evening every evening. Surely the download speed should fluctuate if it really was dependent on availability. At the moment I can watch my download speed and tell what time it is based on how fast its going. The speeds are like clockwork 20-30kB/s during the day, 90-120kB/s in the evening and when 12 hits downloads finally start picking up.

That is how our network is prioritised at the moment because we want to make sure that the normal protocols that are the priority are not affected. Hence, we encourage customers to utilise 00:00 - 6 am for downloading and heavy downloads because there's no heavy load on the network at that time.

Is it just me or do they actually shape the capped DSL service? During the day today my torrents were running at uncapped speeds.

So in other words you have set the restrictions regardless of how busy or not your network is - I thought it was dynamic. I know you use all these various terms but basically you are saying that even with a capped account the sutomer has to manage it and if suddenly you need a big DL during the day, it is unlikely that it will happen

What I am beginning to see is that no matter if you are on capped or uncapped, your traffic is shaped so why even bother with capped.

One still doesn't get full speed, even during DL+ hours

Good Day Mr WA representative.

I would like to get a test account I.e. A capped one from you to test and see if your network will work for me. I am currently one of Afrijoke's victims.

Please advise if you can assist. It will only take 100Mbyte and 1 hour for me to test

Thanks WAH, I understand that - I'm asking if there is a particular reason that a capped account is shaped - there is no real incentive to use a capped account if it's shaped the same as an uncapped account.

it's not.

Uncapped accounts are "shaped" more as you use more, capped accounts are almost static shaping (obv with time of day) until you hit your cap.
