YMMV but in my limited testing it sometimes appears that problems (downloading) might well lie with the WA/IS NNTP server.

A download that will trickle down from the local server can frequently fly when downloaded from an overseas source.

I am linked to both the free WA/IS news server as well as Astraweb in europe and one other site, so this shouldn't play a part at all. When I firsted test the account it was in the afternoon. My home capped was crawling along; switched to home pro and then feel along at full speed.

As I said, YMMV.

I specifically disabled the WA/IS news server before testing.

Haven't got a clue what YMMV means besides your mileage might vary - if that is the case, not sure how that applies.

Sorry I am not too tech minded :)

Yes it means that.

Have you disabled IS server and only test with premium?

Hey wingnut

Nope because my set up allows both the run and to have max speeds. The bulk of my DL's come via astraweb. Right now the home pro is running full steam, so maybe over weekends they allow it to work properly 24/7.

I also want to test it in my normal set up so that I am keeping my set up the same, as this will give more realistic results

Home capped doesn't function well on NNTP during business hours.Home Pro should work during all hours.

Totally agree, but during the week it was as if home pro and normal swithched profiles. The home pro during DL+ hours was terrible, but during office hours, it flew

Well at 20:30 and I am busy trying to DL from paid and free news servers and I am not even getting 10% on of my line speed.

I have been told by WA the following
"Our engineering team is saying, that P2P and torrent traffic types is best effort, it does not get priority on the network and what ever speeds you get, is not guaranteed.

The profile type which you are using gets classified as "junk" on the network, after 12PM midnight it will improve"

I am on home capped - I thought capped would at least give me some control over how and when I use my account but what WA is now saying is that I can use my cap anyway I want as long as it is not to DL from news servers as this will only really operate decently in DL+ hours which is really uncapped.

I find this really poor and can only assume that WA is trying to cover up for lack of capacity in Durban by telling me what they have

We're on Business Capped and even that is variable. You're probably better off at CrystalWeb.

I am on one of those MyBB specials but am starting to wonder if the savings is worth it.

Thanks for the suggestion

Are you still on the RedAfrica special? If so, for R200 you can get 200GB/1TB per month nowadays at WA.

I get that plus my line for R 500 from WA. The problem is that the quality has become really poor and I could never use the 200 gigs anyway because WA has capacity issues it would seem, so they shape the hell out of the line

You should consider AH - had a really good experience with them this past few weeks with the R1 promo - especially w.r.t. Youtube and Netflix

Thanks Praeses. I do most of my downloads via news servers and generally in DL+ hours. My annoyance is that this capped account cant let me do the odd DL during the day at anything faster than about 10%. Sadly I think WA is cutting corners.

When I move it would probably be to someone like CW or Vox

I have W Business Capped at home and get the same download speeds 24/7 off news servers (paid) and torrentz . Just saying.
