I had a reseller account which I pay annually. On 31/01/2010 I requested cancellation as I don't need it anymore. It renews on 1/2/2010. After my request WA still deducted the amount from my account. (I don't have a problem with this as I understand that payments gets processed ahead of time)

Since there were numerous emails between us which ended on 25/02/2010 with WA confirming the credit has been processed and will take 2 - 3 days to go through. Nothing happened since and I followed up once again just to hear that they will now investigate the matter. This was last week.

I don't know how complex this type of thing are, but I am of the opinion that it is quite excessive to take this long. It actually started looking to me like a ploy by WebAfrica to keep the money in their account as long as possible. I have once again followed up now and will wait and see what happens over the next week.

If I remember correctly, their terms and conditions say that you need to give 2 days notice before canceling. You are fortunate that they are refunding you, they have no obligation to do it. I am sure that they will refund you if they say they will. The interest they will get on these sorts of amounts in negligible.

Abe, I don't see it as being fortunate. Even if it is 2 days they can only take one month of the fee, not a full year. Therefor I disagree with your statement

Not necessarily, it depends on a number of factors including whether they offer a 1 month contract or not. But even if they do, one would normally get a discounted price for paying for the whole year. Does that mean a person could cancel six months into their contract and still get the credit back and the benefit of the discount for paying for the year in advance. As an example, if you pay for your insurance annually and write your car off in month 1, they will not give you the credit back for the rest of the year. It's a situation where you lose out. All I am saying is I know that you have waited 2 1/2 weeks. Give it a few more days and I am sure they will sort it out.

Hi PearlJam

Thank you for raising your concerns with us.

I sincerely apologise for the length of time you have been waiting for your refund to clear.

I would like to investigate why it has taken this long to refund your account. Please PM your client code so that I can investigate and provide you with more details.

Hi PearlJam

As per our telephonic conversation, I do apologise for the length of time you have waited for the refund to be actioned.

The refund has been approved and this should reflect within 5 working days in your account.

Once again, thank you for raising your concerns with us.

Well I must say you are lucky.

It took webafrica 6 months to refund me - this was after I had cancelled a hosting account with them.

When they eventually paid it back, they screwed it up and paid the amount over twice - when they eventually realised their mistake, they demanded I repay the money.

So I decided to test how they would like someone taking their own sweet time paying money back to them.

Two weeks post due date , I was informed by email that they would suspend my account and services until payment is made.

Unfortunately I required access to my email account and was forced to pay the amount.

There should be a way to also make these folks suffer the same frustration they cause their clients.
