I have a 100/50 fibre line and pay R1119 with Webafrica on Openserves infrastructre. At the begining of the month I noticed my speed doubled to 200/100. I thought this was a free upgrade because of the recent news about Openserve's free speed upgrades. Anyway, so I needed to download something today (31st March) and noticed my speed was now back at 100/50. So I logged into my Webafrica account and checked my current package/pricing to see it was back at 100/50.
Out of curiostiy I looked at the current package offering from Webafrica to see that they have changed the setup to 100/20 @ R899/month and 200/40 is R1099. I dont know how recent this change in prodcts/pricing is, but it got me thinking... will Webafrica contact me and tell me that there are new products/pricing? Is this something that existing customers have to find out on their own?
I am paying more money each month than what Webafrica is currently offering on thier product page. So why should Webafrica tell me they have a new product/pricing structure. Maybe they have tried to notify their existing customers. I checked my mail and didnt see anything from them.
Anyway, I changed my package over to the 200/40 @ R1099 a month. Its R100 cheaper than what I was paying and althought my upload speed is lower, my download speed is double what it used to be.
What is the point of this post? Well, check you ISP account once in a while to make sure you are not getting screwed behind your back.
