Question of the Day: Which is the most hair-raising South African mountain pass you've driven?
On gamerscube.co.za & #gamerscube made reference numerous times that the EMULATED server is sponsored by WAGE.
How can WebAfrica blatantly lie like that and expect the public to believe it?
Lets get a few keywords out:
"local"
"100mbps"
"sponsored by wage"
"thanks wage for sponsoring the server"
lets break down the analysis.
"local", okay about 3-4 mil ADSL users
"100mbps", + local + 100mbps, must be an ISP, because no user consists out of 100mbps, uncapped at his house/office.
"sponsored by WAGE".... oh wait, thats Webafrica
"thanks wage for sponsoring the server"... acknowledgement
So please enlighten me... AION requires a per month subscription. "So wanne play Aion Online locally FREE". You cannot play AION for free. You need a subscription, a subscription needs money.
Read the forum posts on http://forums.webafrica.co.za/showthread.php?t=3545-1 . WA admins are retorting to name calling & slandering. PLUS they are encouraging users via IRC to participate in violent behaviour.
Clearly WA/WAGE review sponsorships. I don't see how they can sponsor something and then claim they have no knowledge about it.
The server was "sponsored by WAGE" and the moment crap hits the fan they immediately retracted the "sponsored by WAGE" and claimed they had nothing to do with it. First Choc_salties (WAGE MAIN ADMIN) claimes yesterday.

If WebAfrica had any brain cells up there, they must seriously consider overhauling their whole gaming department/WAGE + the Admins because they clearly have no clue what they are doing and what unmonitored activities gets overlooked.
But this is probably a norm, since I see the HEAD FORUM admin is an Organised Choas admin, and some OC admins is quite well known for abusive behaviour.

Well an emulated server of a commercial subscription MMO is almost always illegal. But there are plenty of "open source" or "free" MMOs that are legal to emulate/host locally and even develop further / change, i believe RoseZA is something like that ie: http://www.roseza.co.za/ .
However the client software being copied/made available for free is not usually illegal. You can copy the world of warcraft client from anyone, Blizzard doesn't care, why? You still need to pay to activate your account [i.e. you need an activation code] and then you still need to pay per month on top of that. Aion is no different here, you are going to pay that $50 whether you got the software from your grandmother or from BTGames.
So i think it's great if an ISP can offer these clients that tends to be 15GB+ in size and requires GIGS of patching if you were to start playing after the game has been out....i can guarentee you if you bought WoW now and try to patch it "just to play", you will blow through 5GB+ right there. I spent 60GB+ earlier this year just to download Everquest 2, Star Wars Galaxies , Lord of the Rings Online , Vanguard and Fallen Earth clients and their updates [none of these are available in SA and if they are it's the 3 year old versions requiring massive updating]

The problem has been sorted out. WA Guy spoke to me and told me that they killed the server that was (running on the WA IP range without their knowledge) and that he is also following up on all the WebAfrica admins that threatened to burn down my house, beat up my girlfriend or insulted me.
Btw, WOW EULA states you're not allowed to modify the client to change its realms. = Illegal.
