On the 14th of November 2022 I put in a request on the WebAfrica portal to upgrade my 10/10 line (Which was active since September 2019) to a 25/25 line (this was one of the options to choose from in the dropdown) I did not receive any communication regarding this request, but on the 1st of December 2022 the price for package went off on my Debit order.

I experienced slow upload speeds and hench I opened a Support ticket stating that my upload speed is slower than the package requested (I received a confirmation about this ticket and in this email, my speed is confirmed to be 25/25). After a few days, the ticket was closed stating that the issue has been resolved. This after I did not receive any communication from WebAfrica or Openserve. I tested my speed and seeing that the speed is still too slow I opened another ticket stating that my speed is slower than expected (I then received a confirmation email stating that my line is a 25/15 line which is not the line I ordered)

The next day an Agent from Openserve contacted me asking to test my speed and after relating my speed results to the agent I was informed on their system my line is a 25/10 line. I immediately contacted WeAfrica again stating the above mentioned and the agent (Or should I say agents, as I was thrown around from support to sales to provisioning to support over and over again during the whole day) gave me a promise that a manager will phone me. 19h00 on that night (7 December 2022) a Manager phoned me, we spoke for a while and I stated the whole situation with the agent and they said they have to talk to upper management as there are 4 different speeds everywhere as the speed package they could see on their side was a 25/5 package.

I waited for a couple of days with no feedback I started another chat with WebAfrica Support Whatsapp line. Again I was thrown around from department to department. After asking for a support agent to phone me on the 13th of December 2022 I still am waiting for a phone call and today it is the 19th of December 2022.

It is poor that in today's technological age we cannot get good communication from service providers and how their support staff cannot be properly trained in to listening what the client is experiencing before handing them over to a different agent.

Yep, what’s really sad for me is that WebAfrica seems stable and good most of the time… but, once you have a issue there is no way to get proper support..

Waiting on WhatsApp for up to hours (in some cases the next day at some random time in the morning) for an agent to reply and then they close the ticket after a couple of minutes because you did not rely soon enough.. no agent able to pickup the call history so for one ticket you are asked multiple times to confirm who you are and then tell the whole story again.. agents who have no idea what they are doing..

Pity.. generally things go well.

welcome brother:

curiously ever since that snafu no usage is shown whatsoever for my account, not sure whether to just download the entire internet on a daily basis for fun now or not

Quick one as per the article.

We use DHCP and DHCPv6, no need to configure login details on your router and no legacy PPPoE with small MTUs.”

How to you connect to openserve network if you not using PPPoE?
Hi, right now we're still waiting for our Openserve services to go live, ETA January. Openserve recently changed their MTUs to allow 1500bytes inside the PPPoE session, so we'll be doing PPP, but without the small MTU issue.

I would like to add my 2 cents: I am in the process of moving away from WebAfrica because of poor customer service. We have been with them since fibre was installed in our area, but keep on getting slower speeds than that of our contract with them. If I try to contact them on their WhatsApp support (there is apparently no other way to contact them) it takes hours for someone to get back to me, and if I don't happen to see their message within a certain time, they assume I don't want to talk to them, and I have to start the whole process again.

I have narrowed the search for a new ISP down to Cool Ideas and Afrihost - which of these 2 is the better ISP and why?

Both good choices.

I wouldn't do Cool Ideas, their network has been super shotty lately, they may improve it but it's been over a month. I would go with someone who's network is already working.

Our network is back to stable, it doesn't have to improve at this point. All discussed on our thread if you like :)

Are you joking?!! It’s FOURTEEN days after the fact!! I’ve already cancelled the service. I will never deal with Webafrica again. Good luck with stealing other peoples money. Your company is a scam!
