I agree too many strangers and just happy with whatsapp and bbm for now

One of my contacts was on WeChat... Not popular in my circle of acquaintances/friends/family.

Whatsapp rocks! I will stick with it for a very long time to come.

too be honest, if i met a person for the 1st time.... first thing or so is to use whatsapp....

I only went to weChat 'cos of the Lional Messi advert. anyway i'm just happy to disable the look feature

There's the rub.

WhatsApp states on their web site that they will never post ads inside the app, but if WeChat is free, expect it to go crazy with ads in a year or two.

Or you'll be paying R100 a year for it. Those ads with Lionel Messi can't be cheap.

First they want to get you hooked and then you'll pay for it.

Because it's so k@k slow lately. Many people I know including me have experienced very long delays in messaging. Send a message at 1400 and the recipient gets it at 2200 or even the next day. Whatsapp with that!! Nothing INSTANT about this app anymore.
Having said that, WeChat might run into the same problem in future when they grow too big for their servers to handle

Just installed it for spits and gurgles.

Asked me if I wanted a desktop icon... I selected no. It gave me one anyway.

The app itself is ugly and bloated.

I'll stick to WhatsApp, thanks. Simple, elegant and still the best there is.

So I used wechat extensively this weekend. The push to chat function is awesome. I was in an out pretty important meetings the whole weekend and every time I came out there was a voice message waiting for me from my wife. Luckily it was super simple to just send her a voice message back rather than tying on a touch screen. When I got back to my hotel in the evening we used the video chat to catch up on the day.

Very awesome app.

Just installed it on my kid's Nexus 7 so she can chat to school chums. For some reason Whatsapp doesn't support tablets so our options were somewhat limited.

Since wechat it supported on tablets it a big plus going to try it out now on my iPad.It is odd the whatsapp works with a wifi connection(Majority of the time I am on the wifi on my Nokia E7) they should just make it available to tablets

Whatsapp require a sim card cell number - does not work with WiFi only devices
Although I have seen hacks that port a cellphone installation of Whatsapp to a WiFi tablet
To much hassle in my opinion
