Weight Loss/ Gain thread Dec 2014 - 2015

30kg is a lot to lose in half a year! Congratulations!

I'm carrying on with fasting although not seeing any weight loss yet. Will continue to monitor my weight to see if it starts to change. I skip breakfast and lunch and then just eat supper. I do eat more for supper than I used to, but not nearly enough to make up the skipped 2 meals. Pretty sure I spend much more time in ketosis now.

Well done. Do yourself a favour. (without hurting yourself), go and find something that weighs 30kg and pick it up and walking with it. Then you will realize that is the weight you had to carry around everyday. And that is how far you have come. Keep going.

Doesn't affect my mood at all. Doesn't make me irritable or anything. Some people report more energy - haven't noticed that.

Now and then I don't feel as alert as I'm used to feeling, but the more I fast, the less that happens.

Phase 1 ending this week . Also that whey goes off next month

Hit my goal of 80 and decided to include some weight training in my gym sessions, so weight has gone up a bit again. 81 now. Aim was to lay off weight training until I reached 80.
The cm's have still come off though. Replaced my belt 2 months ago as I ran out of holes, and on the last hole of the new belt now.
The toning is working though. Feeling great.

^ Nobody should be using that word

Also, weight training should be part of any weight loss attempt in order to preserve muscle mass.
First time I have heard about not using the word toned, so not going to let it bother me.

I never did weight training until I hit my goal weight as I did not want to skew the values. Needed to know I had lost 15kg of fat. It's worked for me.

I weigh 85kg now. Was 89kg about 2 weeks ago. I think most of the weight I've lost is still just water weight, but I think I can notice a difference in terms of fat.

I'll give it another 2 weeks and see what my weight is. I'm hoping weight loss will actually speed up.

Lifting a case of beer to the fridge

If you have never done weight training ever, or if you don't have muscle mass to lose then that may be true.

But for anyone with some muscle mass invariably you lose muscle too when losing so much weight. .

If you don't use it (muscle) , your body gets rid of it.

Ticking along nicely now and got me digital scale at home that can handle the weight, so now sans shoes as they say.

Ive also recently read up on Intermittent Fasting, specifically for weight loss and hypertension.

The benefits seem great, especially for those who would like to lose weight or gain muscle.

I've put together some resources you can check out:

I'm going to incorporate fasting in my own diet. I've started this week with a 24 hour fast, and are now doing the Leangains method (16 hours of fasting, followed by an 8 hour feeding window).
I'll stick to real food and lean towards a low-carb, high fat diet during the 8 hours of feeding.

I think its a fantastic way to lose weight. When you learn more about it, it seems so logical.

I've been on a 20-24 hour fast for 2 weeks now. You get used to it quickly. I eat between 4pm and 8pm every day, that's it.

When I hit my goal fat percentage, I'll switch over to a 16 hour fast. But I'll never go back to eating breakfast I think, except on special occasions.

How's the weight loss been? Too quick to say?

Re the intermittent fasting - I have a cup of coffee in the morning with about 20ml of cream - I assume this will destroy the fast.

Would I have to have my coffee black during the fasting hours?

I don't have my coffee black.

I don't think it makes a difference to be honest. The purpose of fasting is to keep your body in a state in which you don't have much insulin floating around. Any cream or milk in coffee wouldn't have enough calories (carbs) to cause a large insulin response. Not much insulin would be released, which means the "spike" would not be high.

Just don't eat anything and don't drink anything like fruit juice, Coke or beer.

You're fine. Have it with cream.

Cool, I fell off the LC wagon when my daughter was born 7 weeks ago. Put on 3kg and I want to go down quickly. I already fast from after supper until brunch in the morning but I am going to stretch that to a full 22hr fast (after supper until supper the next evening) with just a cream+coffee or 2 inbetween and see how that goes....

I still would love to get into the elusive double digits (99.9kg - 8kg away)

ALSO - I like the idea of not having to plan/take brunch food to work which is a real PITA
