Weight Loss/ Gain thread Dec 2014 - 2015

What a terrible tasty weekend. Full off samoosas and burgers.

I nothing to eat on Saturday. Finished a bottle of Whiskey before I hit the pub. Was one of my top 5 drunkest of all times days.

Sunday I had biltong in the evening. Lost over 2kg. Might be the 7 times I puked yesterday.

Saturday: Did parkrun as usual, getting fast now. Did it in just over 30 minutes, I know I could have done it faster.

Sunday: Did my usual 5km run, which I'm now making much better time on. After that, I did a 45 minute arms, shoulders and chest work out.

The problem with doing all of that exercise, and especially running, is that I burn so many calories that I get incredibly hungry. On Saturday and Sunday, I had about 40g of chocolate, and on Saturday night, a bit of brandy and coke and ice cream (not mixed together!). Even with that, I think I burned off more than I ate. I am glad that I am burning fat off, but man, it makes me hungry.

I also bought a skipping rope. My plan is to do 20 minutes of skipping on every day that I don't run. So, that should increase my daily calorie deficit by quite a lot.

Still waiting for my healthy gear card - it has now been around 3 weeks. I'm starting to get suspicious that it takes so long - do they not want you to use that cashback? I mean, I would quite happily pay for a courier or even fetch the card if they told me where to go. I don't buy that it takes 3 weeks to get a silly card to you.

So I'm still waiting to buy those heavier dumbells I need, it is getting irritating but there is nothing I can do.

Thats awesome. Great workout.

At least you loosing weight. I have stalled a bit. But not too concerned. In it for the long haul. And my dead line is still in July.

I think I'm losing weight but quite slowly. Something like 1kg over a month. Hoping to speed that up with my skipping rope.

I'm not too concerned about losing weight slowly, because I know it will come. I know it will take some time for the increased levels of exercise to have an effect on my body.

EDIT: So, I did my first skipping session today.

It really does burn calories! But I didn't realize the learning curve was so steep, I think it will take me a while to master it. At the moment, I think I can manage about 10 jumps before I screw up.

I consulted videos and guides on how to do it. I think my hand placement is okay, but I know I'm jumping too high. Problem is that it is almost like a reflex action! First time I tried to skip, I think I jumped a metre in the air. Need to learn better control.

It is also hurting my shins a bit. I started barefoot, but then put on running shoes after reading a guide about it. I'm skipping on my hard tile floor, and I think what I need to do is buy some interlocking rubber mats. Partly to prevent damage from accidentally dropping weights, partly for the sake of my shins. I'm going to limit my skipping until I get hold of the mats. I don't want to get shin splints and then not be able to exercise for 2 weeks.

I'll be much more worried about the chocolate than the diet soda.

100g 70% Dark Chocolate = 33g Carbs, 500 Calories, and +- 14g Sugar.

The 85% Dark chocolate being little better, but still, I wont blame the diet soda while im eating chocolates :-)

+1. Chocolate is extremely high in calories :(

That BBC doccie, "Why are thin people not fat?", they tried to make thin people fat by getting them to on to a high calorie diet. The only way they could get enough calories in to gain weight was to top up with chocolate.

So since we last chatted, I banned diet drinks and stayed with plenty of water and 2-3 Nespresso +cream daily. I also kept the dark chocolate in - I eat 4 blocks every second night and this past Monday during the latest Top Gear episode smashed a full 100g slab (Felt very guilty afterwards).

Weighed this morning and 1kg down compared to when I posted on the 25/02. I really think the artificial sweetener caused an insulin response in my body or the carbonation of the diet soda's caused inflammation and water retention.

Either way, dark chocolate stays and diet soda is out for me.

Congrants, I'm also 1kg down :D
But still going to slow, I also bought myself a chocolate this week, a 90% lindt from woolies, and i must admit it tastes amazing, normally the 70% was to bitter, but now the 90% actually has a sweet taste to it, I think i might have made a mistake because i'm craving one right now, damn you FlashSA, damn you to hell, (or a chocolateless pit)

I love keto so much. I've been on it for two years, but only serious for about a year, which is when I started following /r/keto. That's when I started seeing a huge difference. In that first year I was off and on, but lost around 5kgs and felt a lot healthier. This past year, following /r/keto and planning my Macros, tracking my food (and gymming), I've lost 15kgs. This passed week I've hit a weight I haven't seen in a while, and I wasn't too phased since I know how much weight can swing from day to day, but it seems I've broken through that barrier properly.

Can't wait for the coming year. Awesome food and fat loss awaits.

Awesome stuff! Well done :)

I am also converted for life. If I think back to all the years of being obese and wearing jumbo sized clothes or clothes that didn't fit after xmas - now that part of my life is over.

I cleared our a storeroom at home 2 weekends ago - 2 bakkie loads worth of junk that had accumulated. I drank water like a camel through it all but I finished at 12pm without any food for the day and still full of energy!

Fat power FTW!

I picked up quite a bit in Feb after losing almost 5kg in Jan.

Joined the gym last week and Im dropping again. 2.3kg in 2 days to be exact with Banting. I strongly believe that weight loss cannot be achieved without an exercise plan.

The reason I say this is because it's the gym work that takes care of falling off the wagon syndrome.
An exercise routine on Monday will burn the pizza and Burgers you had on Saturday and Sunday as a "cheat" meal. You'll feel like a superstar on Tuesday.

Exercise allowes you to lose that extra carbs which you know you shouldn't be deprived of if you want to be happy.

This thread is awesome. I was about to skip today, but after reading the last few posts, I'm motivated again. Except the puking bit.

Drink on an empty tummy with lots of water. It reduces the nausea.

I joined a private gym 6 weeks ago. Was weighed and my body fat etc. measured to the finest detail. Was given a high protein low carb diet. And it is a lot of food. E.g. breakfast 1 egg, 4 egg whites, and a cup and half of uncooked oats.

I train 5 days a week. High Intensity, Low interval stuff. The last time I trained like this was in the Army. You feel like throwing up. My results after 6 weeks:

Lost 16.87 kg fat
Gained 9.5 kg muscle

What works for me is the one on one training. You don't train like this on your own in the gym. And I'm eating double the amount of food I usually did, but it is the correct food in the correct proportion.
Will be training like this until the end of the year.

That's simply not possible. Unless you are on a proper steroid cycle or have the genetics of Brock Lesnar. Even with a proper steroid cycle you will be lucky to pick up 8kg muscle in 8weeks, and you will loose 4kg in the following few weeks after a cycle, but naturally?, I'm willing to bet it's impossible.

How much are you willing to bet? I have all the initial weight and fat measurements on record as well as the final weights and measurements.

You are either saying I am lying or that the team of personal trainers are lying to me? Which of those is it if I may ask?

Go and do some research please, even if you told me you picked up 10kg muscle in an entire year I would have been VERY sceptical. But I'm not going to argue about something that I know I'm right.

Edit. First link i clicked on http://scoobysworkshop.com/muscle-gain-calculator/
You will be lucky to pick up 4kg muscle per year (naturally) so ja, 9.5kg muscle in 6weeks is simply impossible.

I will double check with them tomorrow then. All I have are the figures they gave me last night after final weigh in. If these figures are wrong, I will post here tomorrow evening.

Dude, I honestly don't care and I did not bring it up to take you on or anything like that. I just know from personal experience that building muscle is extremely hard, and like I said, even with roids or/and HGH picking up almost 10kg of muscle in 6weeks is simply just not possible. If you want real expert advice on the matter, register on Anabolicsteroids.co.za (most people on the forum don't use roids, but they have a wealth of information)
I am sure Thor can also give his opinion, he does bodybuilding if I'm not mistaken.
But we'll done on the weight loss, it's inspiring!! keep it up!!

Not at all...I appreciate your honest and informed feedback. Looking at the figures I am also becoming more and more convinced that they fukked up with their calculations. I do not want to be placed under any misconception re. my weight loss and/or muscle gains.

I am training again tomorrow evening and will sit down with them and work through the figures again. They have a wall in the gym with similar results posted as well as on their FB page. So they are either making a fundamental calculation error, OR they are BS clients into thinking they are achieving miraculous results.

I hope it is an error on their side, but if it is, many bubbles will be burst.
