Hi

Getting inspired by the Weight Loss thread, I decided I also wanted to get on board.

I am starting this tread to help keeping me motivated and to reach my goals, by giving period updates on my progress.

So with out further delay, here we go.

Goals:
  • My first goal is to get to about 9% body fat, while maintaining current lean muscle mass and building some strength.
  • Second goal is to build some extra muscles and strength, whilst trying to keep body fat at 9% (or lower).

Stats:
  • Sex: Male
  • Height: 186 cm
  • Age: 30
  • Starting weight: 96 kg
  • Starting body fat: 15 %

Started on the 4th of September to change my diet, i.e. starting weight of 96 kg.

For the body fat value, I went to a Biokineticist on the 17th of September to have it measured. She used those tweezers to measure and calculate my BF %. However, I don't think they are very accurate, and judging from the pictures below, I would estimate my BF % to be around 15 - 16%. I also have to mention, my weight reading that morning was 94 kg :)

*****Update: 1 November 2013****

Weight: 89.9 kg
  • Blood Pressure: 120/77
  • Cholesterol
    • Total: 5.18
    • HDL:1.19
    • Triglycerides: 0.47

Little bit up from last month, but nothing serious.

Depending on the light source, I can start seeing outlines of abs - huzzha! But obviously still have to lose more BF to actually have them shown in fully bright light ;)

Also making progressive gains with the workout at the gym - so happiness there!

*****Update: 29 November 2013****

Weight: 90 kg

Ok, so weight fluctuated throughout the month, but I think that is mostly due to water weight - I was at one point 89.2 kg in November. Been taken in some more carbs, so glycogen stores in muscles probably went up, which means water retention went up.

Although, good news, went to see Bio yesterday to measure BF. At 12% now (10% according to the scale she is using), so I lost a kilo of BF from last I did a measurement. :D

Pics below - was lus to put in a cheat pic, flexing some back muscles.

not to be a douche.. why not just join the weight loss thread?

Too cluttered, too many irrelevant posts etc. also, it is stated that entries are closed to participate.

You didn't need to suck your tummy in

lol, that just how i normally keep my abs tight, I hold it like that through the entire day.

Will actually post a picture of me sucking my tummy in ;)

LOL, indeed that thread is full of ****.
Anyhow your pictures show you just need to tone up a bit, I need to drop another 22kg to get to where you are now, working on it :(

Progress update in first post.

Yip, that why I want try and get to below 10% BF, while maintaining muscle, but it't slowing down now

Good luck in your weight loss journey! :)

Good going there Okty. Are you gymming at all? You seem to have the genes for it. Would put on some nice muscle.

Thanks man!

Yes, I am gymming whilst trying to lose the BF, but at this stage it is just maintain my current muscle mass - don't want lose any while losing weight. I haven't done much gymming in the past, so I'm just following a beginner program for now. :)

I can only start building once i reach my first goal, i.e. obtain about 9% BF.

(Dont know abut the genes tough :p )

If this is your first time training, you can easily add muscle and burn fat.

Update (edited in main):

Went to the Biokineticist today to have my BF % measured - result is 11.2 % :D

I asked her how acurate the pinch method was, and she replied very acurate with the formulas etc they use, so will see.

Awesome progress

Thanks Shaun!

No Offence but unless you have lost a lot since your pic on 4th October, I doubt you're at 11.2%

That will give you an idea of what 11% looks like (nothing around hips) looks like you still have little love handles

That being said you have made good progress, well done

Yeah, i hear you man. That is why I am skeptical with the real value when using these pinchers, however, at least using the same method, it shows there is some progress! :)

Looking at some sites on the web, i would add about 3% to that value, so about 14% BF.

Also, some interesting comparisons between BF images : http://www.leighpeele.com/body-fat-pictures-and-percentages

If I were you I would stop worrying about bodyfat and start lifting heavy. Your pecs look like you've worked them but the rest could do with more muscle,

I agree with 14-15%. You have come a long way from those original pics :)

If anything, I'm around the 20% mark. The only place fat seems to be sitting on me is around my stomach and love handles. The rest of my body has pretty much no "excess" fat. The stomach and love handles are without a doubt the hardest to lose. :(

I want to drop from 87kg to about 79kg (I'm 1.78m) - then after this tyre belt fat is gone, I will bulk up a bit. Just running and rowing, training for 2 Oceans Half - so hope by Apr 2014 I'm down to about 79kg's. Dropped my meal portions quite a bit and making smarter choices in what I eat. Seems to be working. ;)

Keep us updated as you go...interested to hear what works for you.

Crazyfig, if you have the time sift through the weight loss thread - theres a lot of info, I'll be posting pics 9th of December or so
