I am now weighing 91kg...wow I am so happy. Close to breaking the 90kg barrier. Funny enough, I still got a little belly flop going on :(

Im almost on 16kg now and I wasnt very fat to begin with but the little bit of belly is still lurking.
Im guessing when Im a bit further down that it will finally pack its bags and head off to make a high carb eater miserable!

Tweaking my eating program again this week. Down to the 10%-14% bodyfat range now at a good 95kg. Tacked on a good kg and bit of muscle. Had a good refeed this weekend as well. Gorged myself on oats and sweet potato grilled in oven drenched in butter. Was heaven :D

Adding in the morning cardio and HIIT sessions post weight training as well starting today. Hopefully another two months and I'll have that 10% mark beat and still be over 90kg.

Woot! Broke the 90kg barrier this morning. 89.5kg That makes it 10kg' lost since the beginning of Feb.

Well done. I'm struggling to break the 90kg barrier.. lost 5 kilo in the first week of the diet.. but for the 4 weeks afterwards.. been yo-yoing between 92 and 90... hoping that i can break the barrier this week (had visitors staying with me last week, and been going out for suppers quite often.. so been having way too many cheat days.. going back onto a strict diet from today)

But at <10% you should have visible abs, you didn't flex while taking the measurement?

I suspect the bodyfat measurement is not entirely accurate, but it has trended down from 17% to 9.6% so it's the right direction haha. Either that, or I'm just genetically unlucky and the fat I do have is on my belly.

This started as a quick one-line post, but has metamorphosised into a bit of a personal mission statement. Feel free to pass comments, criticise or ignore, as the mood takes you...

I'll never see 90kg again, and probably never get close to 100kg, but I'll be quite happy to get under 120kg, and very happy if I can get close to 110kg.

I started cutting carbs on the 19th of March at 142.5kg, and was happy to see 136.0kg on the scale this morning. I am 1.91m tall, so it's not (quite) as dire as it may look at first glance.

My usual is scrambled eggs for breakfast, with a little mince or something for flavour if I have leftovers in the fridge.
Lunch is usually a snack of nuts (mostly pecans, they're easier to find here than macadamias, sometimes peanuts), biltong, cheese, maybe some chicken.
Supper is usually steak, maybe bacon, often with eggs or mushrooms or tomatoes.

Previously my diet was cereal for breakfast (if I had time), a burger, a pie or a pizza (with a coke) for lunch, and supper would be meat and/or potatoes if I cooked, otherwise a sandwich or two. Everything washed down with coke or fruit juice, and teas and coffee with way too much sugar. The thing I miss the most is coke, I really crave it when I see it in the fridge in the supermarket, but the sugar in my tea and the potatoes, cereal, bread and cakes I don't miss that much, in fact they don't bother me at all.

I usually have a couple of beers with my mates on a Monday night after band practice, and plan to continue doing that. Around the braai or socialising at home, I'll stick to a glass or two of red wine.

I'm not too good on the whole veg and/or salad thing, and am not being religious about things - if I tell myself I'm not allowed to eat something, I'll end up eating it. So I'm emphasizing the fact that I have changed what I eat and not that I am on a diet, and I am allowed to eat anything I want, I just choose not to eat carbs. Makes things less pressured, and if I'm going to do this for the rest of my life, which I need to do, then I can't beat myself up with guilt when I eat something on the wrong list, because it is going to happen.

As long as I can be compliant generally, and my weight is on a long term downward trend (and stays roughly steady once I'm near my goal), I don't really care if I have the odd day where I eat junk and put back a little weight.

I'm in two minds about ketosis, I have no clue if I'm in ketosis or not, and haven't been able to find a way to tell, and I'm also not sure if I need ketosis or not, or if generally eating low-carb (as opposed to no-carb) is sufficient. My worry is that if it becomes too prescriptive or restrictive, I will do it for a few months, lose weight, but go back to what I was doing before and then end up back where I was in the beginning. For me to be able to keep at it indefinitely, I need to allow myself some latitude both to treat myself once in a while, and to fit in with family and friends lifestyles. I refuse to be the one that person who screws up every gathering by loudly proclaiming what they can and can't eat and allowing it to adversely affect other's choices.

Awesome post man, you just keep doing what makes you comfortable, especially in the beginning. It gets easier and easier down the road. I hit the 3 month mark this weekend and treated myself with burgers and a milkshake, heh. It's like you say, the minute you feel restrictive, it becomes something you resent and once you resent something, you want to just get out of it. Variety in what you eat and in the exercise is important.

Grats on your achievement so far man.

@Colin you should add some form of activity in there as well, walking a dog/golf/taking the stairs instead of the lift doesn't have to be very intense, just to get the heart rate up and active.

You'd be surprised how many calories you burn by just being a little more active.

Oh and I believe you could go down sub 100 with dedication, my bro is 1.96 and he went from 115kg to 88 in no time and he still has the occasional takeaway.

Colin62: I agree with you on the low carb as opposed to no-carb plan.. it's extremely difficult to find meal options when you are out with friends/family and I too do not want to restrict others choices with my dietary requirements. That said, even though I have been having the odd meal with rice or chips.. I have not gained any weight.. so I'm sure you will be fine as well.

Don't give up dude, anything is possible...if you set your mind to it, you will get what you want!! Keep moving forward!! :)

Okay was pleasantly surprised with the scale this morning :D

Tue Apr 1, 2014 at 6:26 am 84.4 kg Tracker
Tue Apr 1, 2014 at 6:26 am 15.4 % Tracker

The BF% I'm going with my training partner to get properly assessed so when that happens at the end of Apr or beginning of May I'll update you!

Did my final weigh-in for the SleekGeek challenge. Currently at 87.9kg, so I lost 7.2kg in the 8 week challenge. Also lost 30cm in total.
I doubt I am gonna try get down to my 85kg target, it's probably too low for my height.
I'll probably start eating more and try to start building some lean muscle.

Is it just me getting older(25) or is it this LCHF diet causing me to have no alcohol tolerance whatsoever?

In my student days I would drink a bottle of brandy and THEN go out, nowadays 3 GnT's and I'm off my face...
