Weight Loss Thread 2014

Fish - good
Couscous - bad
Tinned veg - seriously?

To fix this fry the fish up in butter, and add a dollop of butter to your couscous

For future reference replace the couscous with cauliflower rice (Google it) veg in future should be fresh green leafy veg and any other veg that grows above ground

Need some advice please - been doing the LCHF diet since the 1'st. Went well, lost about 3kgs in 4 days and been hovering about there for the last week. No exercise yet - work's been crazy. Pretty sure it's not just water, I'm taking in about 2l a day, used to have maybe a glass or so a day, excluding coffee.

Yesterday's menu(most are similar) -

Breakfast
2 scrambled eggs with maybe 30ml full cream milk, some gouda cheese grated on top and 2 pieces of droe wors.

Lunch - salad with 2 lamb chops, bit of fat on each.

Supper - piece of lemon-butter fish, some veggies - carrots, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, baby corn.

I'm not really hungry between meals, energy levels are good, the weight's just not really going anywhere at the moment. Lost about 3cm around my waist as well.

Been meaning to pick up a copy of The Real Meal Revolution, seems to be out of print with stock due end of the month only.

Any advice?

Carrot cake, milk tart, cupcakes, coffee..... on it

It is just water... If memory serves me correctly you store 4 grams of water for every gram of carbohydrate. Don't overdo your exercise. Personally I would skip it completely or do it once a week (in the evening), and then re-feed carbohydrate afterwards.

I really wouldn't worry about watching your weight... Maybe just track centimeters. I went down from 17% to 12% bodyfat but only lost around 2 kilograms as I was doing weight training once a week.

Getting rid of fat is not a race, it takes time and patience accompanied with the lifestyle change. If your previous eating habits included a lot of carbs and depending how long you've eaten that way it will take some time for your body to adapt to LCHF. just be patient you will reap the benefits.

I second this x 100

Hi Niner, Ive also started with this tipe of lifestyle change (as it is not a diet) on the 2nd and my experience is also very similar. Lost about 2.4kg within the first 3 - 4 days and then was stuck there. Today Im down again and is 3kg down total now.

I dont think there is a problem with what you are eating as Im eating similar. Other people might tell you to up your fat intake?

I think the 3cm around your waist is already a good indication that you are in fact losing weight and that something is happening. I think we must be more patient and dont expect too fast weight loss too soon. It also depends on how much you have to lose.

Hope it helps

this exactly. I have found that burning cm's happens more than the weight loss. and you end up feeling better because of the cm loss. well for me anyway. when I eased back over the festive season, the weight gain wasn't apparent but I didn't feel good as the cm's were coming back.

Thanks to all for the replies. I realize that it's a lifestyle change, not a diet and, as such, I'm happy with the move. I used to pretty much live on carbs. BF is about 36% according to my scale, so I've got a long way to go. It was just nice to see the initial drop - really helped with the motivation over the last couple of days of the festive season.

Now that I know I'm on the right track, I'll relax - maybe weigh and measure myself once a week and just enjoy the food. It is nice to not be craving something sweet every half an hour.

Same as you dude, in week 2 now and still hovering on 84kgs, but I have dropped from a 36 to a snuggish 34. Think it just takes time....and as long as the CM's keep going, no complaints.

I struggling with the fat though, eating more protein probably than I should as I have always disliked the texture of fat on steaks and chicken. So I struggle to get fat from the meat in. Think I need to chomp more salami and dry-wors...

Lamb and pork fat are the tastier options IMO, but don't forget vegetable fats, avos are awesome and so are macadamia nuts and a firm favorite is coconut oil.
