Weight Loss Thread 2014

Do any of you peeps boil a lot of eggs at once and then pop them in the fridge and use when you want?

No amount of exercise will undo a bad diet.

I don't think that anyone is making the claim that it will. I think the discussion is what constitutes a *good* diet. I'm claiming that in conjunction with an exercise plan a balanced diet cutting out overly processed crap but with sensible portions of carbs, veggies and protein is the way to go in the long run. Others are suggesting that a diet consisting of only fatty proteins to force the body into ketostasis is the way to go because you can rapidly lose weight and be lazy.

I also got the Tim Noakes book and read it over Christmas and started banting on the 2nd January. Its been a week now and Ive lost about 2.4kg and I feel good.

This morning went to the gym for a workout and surprisingly had a lot of energy. Today so far has been a fatty smoothie with mixed berries for breakfast, Salami sticks for snacks, chicken mixed with cauliflower mash and pumpkin on the side and tonight it will be a nice fatty pork chop with some veggies.

Looking forward to see the progress of the rest of you and share some recipes or experiences with this diet. My wife is doing it with me and she also lost about 3kg. But she is complaining of nausea and runny tummy this week, probably from all the fat? Any of you had similar issues?

I don't think anyone is promoting "forcing" the body into ketostasis or that you should be lazy. I will however happily promote eating fats and proteins with little to no carbs and enjoy exercise from a fitness perspective, but don't rely on exercise for weight/fat loss, the LCHF/Banting/Paleo lifestyle (it is not a diet) whereby you manage your insulin will result in weight/fat loss without exercise.

I'm not disagreeing that exercise is good for you, just that it contributes less to weight/fat loss than a lot of people assume, healthy eating is the key. I also agree with you that cutting out highly refined and processed crap is also good for you.

I know it is anecdotal but a year and a half ago I weighed 76kg's but was skinny and had a bit boep.

I've largely cut out oily, sugary, processed foods while still eating unprocessed starches. I also still enjoy the occasional chocolate and drink too much beer :). I've also been going to gym for 2-3 hours a week I'm looking fitter, healthier, stronger and while you can't see a six pack you can see the shape of my abs.

it is a possible side effect as the body adjusts to using fat for fuel instead of carbohydrate

So do you guys buy the fattiest Biltong and steaks you can find?

I've got a friend who farms close to Cradock who used to be really fat, but he always slaughtered his fattest sheep.
He used to joke about having to eat "white meat" as well.

Anyways, just thought having to eat chops like that may be a bit too much :)

for Bob

this is the original US department of Agriculture food pyramid as introduced in the late 70's (note the amounts of carbs recommended)

this is the trend in obesity and overweight adults in the US since 1960, note what happened from the late 70's

This worked for me to for many years, but as I got older I found the pounds started creeping back and I was always hungry, thirsty, tired and prone to sugar highs and lows as I became carb intolerant, with banting I'm back on a even keel again blood sugar = 4.2 where it was 5.4 previously.

I want to have all my indicators tested
Cholesterol (both types?)
Glucose levels
Blood pressure
Triglycerides

Is that all?

Anyways, started today with Noakes' diet
Had 5 eggs for breakfast (bit much?)
Has 300g biltong for lunch (AWESOME!)
Going to have a moerse steak for dinner, along with some broccoli

Any ideas where to find more "recipes"?

Are those the only ones?

Maybe introduce a bit more fat and reduce the protein a bit, i.e olive oil and butter. Going to try make some coconut flour scones.

1. Ketosis is a natural state that everybody enters into
2. Yes you can rapidly lose weight and not muscle, what are you complaining about?
3. Be lazy? Quite the opposite, I feel fantastic and get more work done!

Similar experience with me. Cant believe the energy gains, obviously with some people they have different experiences. Since Saturday I have been struggling to sleep, and I have a feeling its my energy levels as I only trained once in the 8 days I started - so no outlet for the energy.

Trained really hard/intense today...hope I sleep better.

My wife on the other hand is not having the same results as me. Less than 1 kg lost, she does not have the energy gains like I have...but I think she is eating too much of the leafy stuff on the "Green" list of food items. Told her she needs more fats and meat. Will see how the next week goes for her as she is now trying for fat and protein.

Cant say I have the runny tummy issue...but past 2 days...not been solid like it was (ok...this getting a wee bit gross! :p). Think it is all the fat and protein though, body adjusting...
