Weight Loss Thread 2014

How many times per month do you "cheat" on or stray away from your diet and/or exercise program?

Do you think it makes a massive difference if you have a burger with chips once or twice a month?

Well, I haven't been doing it that long, but I will not eat anything I cannot. That way lies madness and belly-fat. The furthest I've strayed is to have two apples in one day.

Currently I don't deviate one bit from my meal plan or training regime.

But - depending on your goal etc the cheat meal won't make any difference. In fact most people advocate that it's needed - more so for the psychological benefit than nutritional side.

I find lchf eating doesn't induce any desire to "cheat", I don't have cravings, however that doesn't mean that I don't eat carb based products once in a while, I just do so consciously and if possible keep them within an acceptable quantity

Thanks for the insight guys.

I also do not have any cravings or need to cheat as OMB says and I am extremely surprised at how easy it was for me to cut out the sugar completely and now the carbs. I have/had quite an (un)healthy sweet tooth and thought it was going to be very difficult but I am doing very well. I won't lie. The stuff still looks pleasing but I don't even consider consuming it.

Another reason for asking the question is: We are visiting my folks next weekend. I know for a fact the food is going to be high fat but also high carb. So wanted to get an idea how it will hamper my progress.

Please post pics of your flax seed bread. :D

It isn't the most photogenic loaf around :( The earlier pic from someone looked a lot better. Maybe different types of flax seed? (Don't know if there are more than one type.. Just conjecture)

For example? If it's separate, eat just the protein/fat as much as possible. If it's something like lasagna, skip it.

You could just tell them that you're on a specific diet, and ask them to provide for that, or take your own.

Awesome, thanks. Where to buy flax seed? Is it something Pick n Pay carries? Or does one need to go to a health shop/more niche type of store?

I try relax a bit on a Saturday or Sunday, so if there's the possibility of an apple pie, I'll have a small piece and not feel guilty. That's what I consider a cheat day. I had a Tempo after a month as a celebration treat and it hit me with such a headache that I didn't bother again. I do exercise for 2 hours 6 days a week so even if I was more cheaty on the cheat day, it would be taken care of :D

I went to a nearby health shop as I was sure they'd have something like it, and they did. But I think I remember seeing it in a Spar. Either way, check on the net, there should definitely be somewhere close to you that sells it.

One hundred grams of ground flax seed supplies about 450 calories, 41 grams of fat, 28 grams of fiber, and 20 grams of protein.

Dietary fiber.

Not sure if this is a come on or a compliment :p

For example. There are always rice, potato, noodle salads with the braai. Dinners mostly consist of pasta, lasagne, burgers, chips etc... Breakfast is cereal or mielie pap. Lunch almost always sandwiches with left over meat from the previous night's dinner. All of the meals are always delicious.

We are going to be a very big group of people for the weekend so making my own stuff will be nearly impossible with all the people busy in the kitchen preparing for everybody. I guess I will just eat around the bad stuff. My folks will understand but I also don't want to waste food. This is stuff I have eaten for the past 29 years. My mom doesn't know anything else.

ouch, any chance you can prepare your own food before hand and take it with?

Tell me about it dude.. Saying no to garlic bread makes an angel lose its wings.

Yeah, you have to sometimes. Depends on how much you want it to keep to it, there's always the option of pre-preparing your meals and taking them along. To be honest, at times I just take the hit then try to immediately course correct however I can, be it through IF or exercise.

Yeah, I get you. Having Indian parents and trying to explain that rice/roti/vegetable will not get you far. Also, if you let them know now, they'll cater less of that stuff for you maybe.

It is a bit of a tough one. I guess we will all just have to compromise a bit. I will have to put in that extra 30minutes of exercise for the garlic bread I might indulge in while my folks and the rest of the group will just have to understand that when I don't dish up their dishes they slaved away on.
