Weight Loss Thread 2014

Well eating non-organic eggs is a lot better than just saying no its too expensive and eating complete junk instead.

The reason people think LCHF is expensive is that organic groceries and luxury recipes are heavily advocated in Noakes' book. Buying standard non-organic grocery items (with a couple of exceptions), and cooking recipes that don't call for all sorts of luxury ingredients, means that in my case LCHF is as affordable as my old eating patterns. My wife actually says she's currently spending less on food with me on LCHF.

I also lost weight on a HCLF diet... including a lot of muscle...

Yup that will happen, I followed tom Venuto's Burn the fat feed the muscle where you need to to cardio and weight training along with various other tricks to keep your metabolism up, but at the end of the day it was way to difficult to sustain.

I get a little upset when people say this way of eating is expensive. Saw an article in the Sarie about LCHF that also said people must be careful because it is very expensive. Compared to what? Its A LOT cheaper than weigh less or any other 'healthy diet' options out there. If you are comparing it to a high carb diet, maybe cereal or bread is cheaper than bacon and eggs but you will eat a lot more if you are eating a lot of carbs which will end up costing more anyway. Also, LCHF doesn't get you the cravings you get with a HC diet, so you will spend less on sugary drinks and snacks. Apart from the cost of the actual food, what are the cost implications associated with lifestyle diseases caused by bad eating habits in the long run?

The thing is: if you eat correctly you don't have to eat a million kilojoules of carbohydrates. Eg high fiber food.

I've been just eating less, eating more salads, not so much fruit, hardly any white breads, and lots of meat/fish .... dropped 15 kilograms since beginning of the year. No special supplements except Vitamin C and Dischem Gold Multivitamin.

It was my New Year's Resolution.

Most people in South Africa cannot afford his diet(Or lifestyle as everyone likes to day). That is the real world side of things.

My short answer to that is bollocks

Since switching to LCHF my consumption of adhoc snacks like chips, biscuits, cakes, sweets, & chocolates has stopped, most of which are priced at a premium. I have also stopped drinking coke and beer (I still have the odd beer on occasion, but I'm not smashing back 4 a night anymore).

I avoid buying organic from Woolies or any other major chain as they just rip the ring out of it. In fact I'm buying less and less from normal retailers.

I'm fortunate that I'm close to a farmers market where I get free range, meat and dairy products of phenomenal quality at decent prices.

I've been doing low carb the vegetarian way, with my protein coming from eggs...(not exactly low carb since I still have potatoes and corn :o:D) and I'm fitting back into my size 10 jeans. Googoo if you're still looking for stuff to eat, low carb quiche is excellent. It was all I ate last week.

Found a cake shop in Blaawberg selling "Tim Noakes banting goodies", asked the lady what's in the cookies, turns out they use margerine and sunflower oil.:(

Hmm quiche would be delicious right now...

Been struggling with my tummy so much. Yesterday it was so sore I thought I was going to die... Thought it was the pills I was taking and I stopped taking them now but its not going to work. Don't really know what to do.
