Weight loss

She must have a major iron deficiency then :)

I do definitely have it. And a lot improves when I up my iron intake. Including bad headaches.
Just tell her to try it - eat some liver or take a supplement.

She is supposed to take iron because she is very deficient.
It's something she's known for years.
She is terrible with taking supplements or vitamins though.
I'm always nagging her to take lunch, take vitamins, iron etc.

Well there you have your answer :)
I can't take iron supplements regularly or really eat red meat because of my tummy but for about a week once a month I have to take the supplements unless i want to die...

So are you saying the chocolate craving is linked to low iron?

Apparently it is. That's what a few people including the dietician told me...
Makes sense if girls always want choccie that time of the month...

But this is not just a 'that time of the month' thing.
It's every evening.

Yes, but I'm talking in general - choccie for iron.
If your wife has a deficiency and wants chocolate all the time it might help to try and take a supplement and see if it works. Otherwise it might just be that chocolate is too damn delicious....

Although I don't religiously read every post, it does look like most of you are only focused on counting calories and don't mention any physical activity (and frequency). Since I started with my diet in May I have taken up running (I run 6-7 times a week at 5am in the morning) and I do think that running has at least allowed me to "take the edge off" - i.e. not really frustrated or headaches or cravings.

Frustrating right now is that my weight has stabilised at 78.5kg (I was on 98.5 in May) and a recent Discovery Vitality check suggests that I should really go down to 73kgs (I am 1,77cm) - although there is still a bit of jelly/flabbiness, I am not quite sure how to drop another 5-6 kgs. Running now 5kms per day (this weekend my first 10km Nike run in Jozi) and do longer runs on weekends.

After several months of adjusting my diet, I don't crave chocolate anymore and I can now walk past a jar of Nutella without looking for a spoon. Biggest challenge people on a protein diet will face is that it has the potential of screwing you up healthwise. In 3 months my cholesterol shot through the roof (mostly due to red meat, eggs, cheese, chicken etc) and need to manage this now with a more balanced diet - so be careful about this as well. My suggestion is (if you are with Discovery) to do a Vitality Health check to get your vitals (glucose, cholesterol etc) measured over the period of your diet.

I agree.
It's a real problem for her.
Last night she mixed milo with a chocolate yogurt because she thought it would help her craving.
That's how much she craves chocolate.

She eats bowls of milo if she can't have chocolate.
There was a point when I used to have to go to the corner shop every evening around 9:30.

He's just saying people should make sure. And there are people who have high cholesterol naturally and everyone should just check themselves.
