First weigh in Monday folks - try be good this weekend :D

Ok warning of a possible long post so please ignore if you're not interested...

So I'm only a few kgs overweight and the actual weight loss isn't such a problem for me - I had my thyroid and blood sugar and everything tested and all is well. My real problem is stress. I stress very easily and don't know how to manage stress at all. I get very bad headaches, cramps, chest pain, bad sleep, pee problems all from stress. And my IBS is most likely also a result of stress. All these things make it difficult for me to exercise because I often don't feel well and because of IBS I'm always bloated and irritable and emo and struggle to lose my tummy fat. IBS also means I can't eat food thats high in fibre, nuts, seeds, fruit peels, onions, garlic, chilli, spinach, broccoli, cucumber, cabbage, legumes... Which makes the healthy eating a bit more difficult - not impossible though.

At the moment I have way too much on my plate. (I should probably also stop spending so much time on MyBB :D but its very quiet at work and thats when I'm mostly on) I just don't know how to manage my time or my stress :(

So if I can sort this little problem out the weight loss should be easy as pie.

Oh and I also tend to eat badly when I stress and when I have so much to do I drink way more coffee than whats good for me. So thats not good...

Ok thats all :)

My 2 cents on this:

Try de-stress a little, start running scented baths, ask your bf for back massages, try meditation/yoga or all of the above.
Additionally, try find healthy foods you ENJOY, keep them around the house or at work... if you get stressed nibble these. OR if you MUST have chocolate or the likes - try just have 1 or 2 blocks.

Also don't let this competition stress you out - we all want to lose weight/ have fun - no ones going to judge you if you have a bad week/ month/ year. Were here to help each other.

Except Shaun - he's here to mock me

well if your problem is stress then stop stressing.
If your problems can be solved then no stress and if they can't be solved then why stress so don't stress.
I suppose easier said than done.

My main weight gain was quitting smoking around 10 years back and substitution with crisps :).

Dropping fast this month so far with no sugar and carbs, will probably slow down soon but will pick up the exercise when I stop losing.

At the moment I'm working, taking 4 subjects at UNISA, organising a kitchen tea, have assignments to do and 2 wedding dresses to make...I don't stress on purpose and I do try to stop stressing but I can assure you its much easier said than done. I really struggle to shut down. And when it gets really bad I just want to sleep and if I do fall asleep I have nightmares so the sleep doesn't count for much... Its really quite a difficult thing. Its not really a worry kind of stress - more like a mind racing all the time kind of stress - if that makes sense.

This is just my opinion , but I think you have too much on your plate. You might need to cut down a bit on your activities and focus more on yourself. Your stress will not be relieved if you don't get a good night's sleep. Time for 'me time'...set a time just for you to do what you want to do. Maybe a long walk, read a book, watch a movie, day at the spa , stuff like that. You should also look into yoga or some other exercise you might enjoy.

I would love to do all those things... Right after the weddings are done and my exams have been written :D
I wouldn't have so much on my plate if certain people didn't decide to get married at such short notice and leave me to do the invitations, dress and cake  I'm not complaining tooo much though. I'm doing it out of the goodness of my heart :o

Ok but I suppose I should just plan my time better... That will have to be step one in all of this.

Sitting, binging on biltong and still water..This even healthy?
Trying a high protein, low carb diet but can't get much info on how healthy biltong is in bulk.

Personal trainer on mybb fantastic. Where do I signup you better be an awesome trainer or else you will get fired like the rest of them.

Good concept to motivate people to stay in shape before the festive season.

Good Luck to everyone wanting to reach their goal. Don't eat fast foods, eat light food like an apple, drink lots of water hot or cold and strictly no alcohol and fizzy drinks.

NO SUGAR whatever you do & no butter!

The doctor told me I may not eat biltong at all. I think it has a lot of salt or something which isn't very good...

morning guys, first weekend coming up, everyone ready? i tend to eat a bit more on weekends if im bored

In general red meat is not very good for you and takes a longer time to process than other meats, yes you are correct in salt factor, but the other factors are that good biltong generally has fat on and the final factor is due to dryness of the meat it can take up to 3 times longer to get digested than normal red meat.

O and ps, some of the spice they use on biltong such as black pepper can take up to 3 months to work through your system and if it is a full pip, it can not be processed by your stomach at all.

Don't get bored ;)
I snack on pop corn on the weekend because I think its better than chips :D
And I like to have a kfc breakfast in the morning because that thing keeps you full for long and I never get lus for naughty things if I have one in :D

some advice for the participants, educate yourselves with regards nutrition, there are a lot of myths out there due to bad science and pseudoscience, look for well researched facts. Doctors and nutritionists have been schooled on the underlying philosophies premised by bad science e.g. fats are bad (they're not and there's plenty of evidence to support this) you just need to make sure you're getting the right fats.

The majority of advice on the interwebz and mainstream media is underpinned by bad science and the train of thought around things like the food pyramid espoused by the FDA and others, beware of what you read. Other people like Patrick Holford promote certain things because they have a vested interest, choose who you want to believe wisely.

Butter is good, nothing wrong with it

Salt is another poor substance that has been subjected to bad science.

Find what works for you, each person's metabolism is different, what works for one might not work for another.

The more natural your nutritional intake then probably the healthier it is, free range meat as opposed to grain fed, stay away from highly refined carbs, veggies - pretty much anything that grows above ground is good.

Beware low-fat/no-fat products, they're generally loaded with glyceamic carbs

Learn to read your food labels

Good luck

I'll cater the prize to whatever the winner wants within a reasonable budget - and reasonable item - No man toys ShaunSA

Except Shaun - he's here to mock me

:erm:

Doubt anyone cares about the prize. But it's good to have some additional motivation knowing we are all in this together. Not sure about you guys but it keeps me from slacking off.

Oh and Lived is so going to own this comp :D
