Weight loss

Right, I'm joining this thread starting today, will update my log each Monday. My system is simply to keep daily intake below 3000 kJ which means no alcohol and snacks automatically. I do take one day a week off (pizza & beer/red wine), this seems to reset the plateau I reach after 4-5 days.

I know some of you won't agree with my method and ascribe it as a side effect of my method but it works for me. I have three meals a day and I don't suffer :)

This is my graph from three years ago over six weeks. I started at 106.6 kg and ended 12 weeks later at 89.9 kg.

It sounds low but it's not really. Woolies has lots of choices. This is my typical day:

Breakfast (never been one to eat a big breakfast anyway): (pic is a bit large, it's 150 g)

Did I offend or upset you?

Say goodbye to your muscles on that kind of calorie restriction, especially considering it's high carb AND low fat AND low protein.

On a low fat calorie restricted diet your body is in sugar burning mode, and when you run out of fuel guess how it makes more sugar? It doesn't burn your fat, it goes straight to your muscles to make sugar.

What muscles?! ;)

Trust me, I looked and felt great when I got to 90 three years ago. I'll take my chances.

Most of the loss was fat, you know that stuff under your neck and arms and so on ... Yeah that's fat alright.

Btw is chicken not protein?

Well your internals organs are next on the list.

My advice would be to increase your fat intake on your calorie restricted days, and then go insanely overboard on your off day once a week. Try and make up for your calories deficit, if you go overboard you can trick your body into believing it's not really starving, as well as reset your hormone levels, without which your body will become incredibly efficient at dealing with starvation.

I have done low fat low calorie before and in the end just ended up looking wasted. Muscle is not something you want to put at risk, ESPECIALLY not your internal organs.

I know there is so much conflicting advice out there, but it would be extremely wise of you to investigate fully the ideas that are being thrown around in this thread.

Always amazes me how we work so hard and lose the weight. Then somewhere along the line we lose our way and it starts piling up again :(

That's because on most diets you end up losing muscle, so your metabolism slows down, and you completely **** up your hormone levels, and then when you resume eating "normally" again, your empty fat cells SCREAM to be filled again, and the weight just piles back on. And because you have ****ed up your hormone levels you actually end up in a worse position than when you started.

This thread is doing its job and keeping me on the straight and narrow -

I have the same motivation as I did in 2012 when I lost 13kg's and went from 58 to 45 in 8 months. Time period is shorter this time but the weight I need to lose is way less as well.

Judging by my progress though I won't need to drop down to 45 again. I seem to be in a fat loss/muscle gain state atm so just hoping it holds.

In my case my life just became incredibly stressful three years ago and I drank everyday and ate crap.

In my case I ate fairly well. With the exception of my Simba chips addiction. It's like a frigging drug :o

Bought my food for the next three days and taking some of your advice and not having meals with pasta & noodles. Woolies has so many choices so it's not hard to choose alternatives.

Oh and btw, the way I dealt with the diet three years ago over Xmas/new year ... If I had a bottle of wine the evening I had to do a 10 km hike the next day. So I got very fit that holiday but maintained my weight until work started in Jan, then I lost the rest.

Why must one have such a killer headache just because you decided not to have carbs today.

Cos low blood sugar hurts like a mofo.

My advice - burn through it. It lasts a couple of days. And stay away from the carbs in future. :D
