using a netgear 854 router (could be wrong on the model number, i'm at home now) Anyhat its the Silver slick looking one

Used to work all 100% sharing internet to about 12pc's.

Then last week sometime on pc got some sort of worm virus which caused it to Upload about 1.5gigs (dont ask) so i take that pc of the network.

Now non of the other pc's seem to get decent internet. Most are using win98 - they visit some sites, some just doesnt load, some takes a few minutes to load.

Then on my own XP box, it works 100%

Any idea why?
suggestions?

All pc's are set to DHCP

1.5 gigs upload + 12 pc surfing the web = Capped[:0]

oh btw

out of the 12 pc's, only my one does major browsing, ftp & email
& the bosses one does online banking for about 20mins a day.

All the others do is visit a page to send sms's to customers.

either way, i think the problem is with my XP box, me thinks virus not completely gone (even after windows updates & norton updates)

Would prob agree with 56k, when it is fine it is prob local and u are prob capped. Check ur usage, if it is not that...dunno. won't have anything to do with removing a pc though unless it was the gateway.

There is no peace without war!!!

You probly have the NetGear DG834 (I do). Upgrade Firmware to V1.05.00 (always a good idea). Just block all ports and only allow the ones you need. Thats always the best way to go about a firewall. Do a full virus scan (as should be a regular thing with a good updated virus program on a bussiness network) and when you know what virus you have, fix it, then check at symantec.com what ports it uses. Block these ports and tell the firewall to always log those. This way you can see whats going on with that virus. Obviously there are allot of tools to check network security and track packets that you can look at.
Good luck.
