Hi

I use SSH to connect to our office server from home. Anyway, up to this afternoon everything worked fine but all of a sudden I can't connect anymore. This is what I have established:
  • I can SSH to the server from behind the firewall (over wifi)
  • I can connect to the router remotely
  • I get no response when I ping the IP (same IP that allows me access to router)
  • When I try to SSH from outside the firewall I get a connection timeout

Any ideas what could be wrong? It's really weird to me that I can reach the router but ping fails on the same IP.

Router has ICMP blocked from outside at minimum, perhaps more now

How do I unblock it? It's a Billion 5200. And how did it block it by itself - as I said it was working perfectly, and nobody changed anything.

Anything updated on the router? Sounds like your port forwarding has been turned off. Another reason could be that SSL interface has been turned on for the router in which case it may override the port forwarding but then you should get a response fo sorts from the router at least.

No changes made to the router at all. Double checked port forwarding- everything seems 100%.

As I said, I can reach the router's control panel from home (on the work network's external IP) but pinging that same IP gives no reply.

There's a Billion rep on the site that could help you find and enable the ICMP settings

On a side note: I.hate.billion.routers after many issues with crappy firmware on 3 of my work routers :P

What server is it and what is its function?

Check routing table on server and local firewall. Check logs on router to see if the ssh connectio goes through. Tcp dump on the server to check the connection when u ssh
