Weird Screen problem

Hi all

I have a late 2008 macbook pro and the screen has recently started tearing. It began with a line along the bottom of the screen, but now the screen is flickering and tearing and is unusable. I think it's the LCD screen itself as when Iplug it into an external monitor it's fine.

Weird thing is, when I try to take a screenshot of the problem, the picture is perfect, no tearing at all, but when I take a picture with my phone you can see the tearing.

So I suppose that must be the actual screen itself? Can I get that replaced?

Spoke to a mac repair guy. he said the LCD is cracked. That someone sat on it. No one sat on it. It happened as I was working on it. He said it will cost 5k to replace. so... yeah. Not gonna happen.

There is a place called the Big Orchard or something like that in the blairgowrie / randburg area that may be able to help with your Mac display. I had the oke's contact details at some stage but I lost them - if I find them, I will send PM.

That guy sounds like a fraud. In no way is this caused by cracks.

Looks like the display (LCD) is gone. Not sure if there is a reputable company / person who can replace it though. If you take it to an iStore you'll get a quote for a replacement Clamshell.

what happens if you move the screen back and forth - do the lines change position ?

i had something similar, was the cable between the body of the mbp & the screen that got tired

When I close the lid, then open it again, the problem is gone, but it comes back again after about a minute. Tearing and stuttering on the screen gets worse the longer I leave it.

It can be lose connector on the main board or LDC panel. If doesn't help, LCD panel is for replacement.
