I will admit a tear ran down my cheek while reading the article and comments that follow. As a Muslim an insult to both Jesus may peace be upon him and Muhammad may peace be upon him is a double insult. Further admit that my patients is tested but I will not give in I strengthen my resolve and look for peaceful resolutions, I do believe in a system that advocates an eye for an eye but it is better for you to forgive those you do you wrong. So I will bare patiently with what you say have a great day, peace:)

Will have to take a look later, possibly got it wrong but anyway advocating death on people is pretty common in the bible.

Might want to add to that that Devarim is part of Torah which isn't part of the pacifism (christ) teaching. OT afaik was slapped onto the NT.

Good point. Most Muslims would see the mockery of Jesus as equally insulting! So this guy at the BBC is a bit of a moron.

In any event, I'm trying to ascertain if Mineer was personally insulted due to a comment that was not directed at him, in any manner, initially.

If he was, then there's the problem I was trying to illustrate right there; People getting worked up over the statements made by those to whom their religion is simply nothing more than another ancient mythology.

People can honestly go jump into a haystack if they presume to expect me to censor myself, especially when it comes to Islam. Why? Well, let's look at predominantly Muslim run countries, and their record of free speech, and their reaction to dissenting opinion.

The day the folk who get so huffy about the opinions of just another oke on the internet, instead choose to get worked up about horrors such as this...

Yea I was dude, Jesus peace be upon him is one of the most respected men from the Islamic point of view, but I suppose we muslims should voice our disapproval when Jesus peace be upon him is insulted too

While I commend you for being so reasonable (although I find the fact that you were insulted in the first place absolutely beyond ludicrous), you know, as well as I, that there are many Muslims in this world who would react quite differently.

Until the day those sort of violent cretins don't exist, I will speak my mind.

Think if someone insulted someone you love, like your mom or dad. God may not be real to you but he is every bit as real to me/the average believer

Come that day I'd join you, how can you form something without taking in that which is needed to make due. Wouldn't life be fail without having at least the basic three as believers, spiritualists and atheists? The only whirlwind in the cart is when there is absolutisms which all three of them share in various degrees.

Now why do people feel insulted?
Well having eros towards your deity is quite natural. Love after all is courage, love without it is pointless. How else would you walk towards god without eros? When you love something or someone you do feel close to them, feeling close to them lends towards being one and finally being one and knowing... how but else can you be a little upset when someone tramples them (and yourself) with being "young bravado"?

Now that was put, more questions must be made:
When is it appropriate to step up and defend?
How can one go about that without lowering yourself to mindless primal instincts?

It comes a bit back to going out with your wife, some idiot says she's a skank - What would you do? you'd imho find the same answer applicable to the initial situation where some one badmouths your god or gods, would you not?

People tend to answer violence (swearing) with more violence (physical), that in itself is rather tell tale sign of immaturity. This goes the same towards someone reacting violently towards that which he/she does not agree either by words or by actions...

Islam insults non beleivers, and those who don't subscribe to it's ethics.
You believe in an eye for an eye. An insult towards islam is return to sender, that's all it is.
