We'll mock Jesus, but not Mohammad - BBC

Just one err in your reasoning. If people can't fight over things religiously they will find something new to fight over. Just think about great local example: people being killed over penis size.

Lol good point. Well if god invented people he did a kak job ;)

Fighting over religion = arguing over who has the best imaginary friend.

I think all religion should be banned. It causes most of the strife on this here planet we all share.

If they didn't have religion, they would find something else to fight over.
Humans are still notoriously superstitious beings.
And will be for thousands more years.
Best you get used to it, or you might blow a gasket! :p

True, most conflicts over religion are ethnic conflicts to begin with. However religion and in particular the Muslim religion in today's time does seem to be a bit of an amplifier. Like a trigger button if you will. Extreme Christianity still exists even today, however the majority of Christians seem to have lost the whole warmongering aspect that they had during the dark ages.

Could it be that the BBC won't criticize Islam because it has a very close identity with an ethnic minority?

I don't believe there's anything commendable about not threatening or carrying out violence against someone who has allegedly insulted some religious sacred sheep. It's the bare minimum of behaviour we should expect from the religious. Even calling for censorship like our own local Christian nutter Naidoo is unacceptable.

Looking at the source of this story though it is really simply yet more whining about Christianity no longer holding a place of privilege.

**** your mom, seriously! She can take it.
Don't blame me when she fires a lightning bolt down on you from the heavens.

The day the folk who get so huffy about the opinions of just another oke on the internet, instead choose to get worked up about horrors such as this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youcef_Nadarkhani

... is the day I might start to consider their apparently very sensitive feelings.
So apparently rape and extortion are fine, just so long as you're not Christian. Shows how truly insane their priorities are.

Wherever would you get that idea?

Yes, totally, although I don't know all that much about the situation, from a quick reading of the Wiki articles, those charges sounded a bit trumped up. But either way, they'll kill him for the Christianity thing, but not for being a rapist? :wtf:

*edit*

Reading further, it seems to be a morass of confusing information.

Religion makes good people do evil things joyfully. Almost nothing else has that type of affect on humans, so I am not convinced on this. Yes people would continue to fight, but it would be a lot harder to make good people do evil things joyfully.

Money
Resources

Humans will always invent strife.

Even when fighting for money and resources yes people will fight. Thats not what I am saying. What I am saying is that you wont be able to get good men to commit evil joyfully. Sure bad men will kill for money and resources, and some good men might even do it... but they wont do it joyfully.

I'd rather say fanatic religion - I'm not sure that these type of religious practices are condoned by the respective religious guidelines (being a book or other).
I don't know of anyone/group of ppl in my church that would harm someone else, especially in the name of Christianity. We should make a distinct differentiation between what the religion teaches and what people do taking things in their own hands.

Cool.

Not certain about that, have not met any of those yet.

Really?

What was directed at Jessica Alquist, after her involvement in her school's wall prayer:

“If this banner comes down, hell i hope the school burns down with it!”

“U little brainless idiot, hope u will be punished, you have not win sh..t! Stupid little brainless skunk!”

“**** Jessica alquist I’ll drop anchor on her face”

“definetly laying it down on this athiest tommorow anyone else?”

“Nothing bad better happen tomorrow #justsaying #fridaythe13th”

“Let’s all jump that girl who did the banner #****thatho”

“literally that bitch is insane. and the best part is she already transferred schools because shes knows someone will jump her #ahaha”

“”But for real somebody should jump this girl” lmao let’s do it!”

“Hmm jess is in my bio class, she’s gonna get some **** thrown at her”

“I want to punch the girl in the face that made west take down the school prayer… #Honestly”

“hail Mary full of grace @jessicaahlquist is gonna get punched in the face”

“When I take over the world I’m going to do a holocaust to all the atheists”

“gods going to **** your ass with that banner you scumbag”

“I found it, what a little bitch lol I wanna snuff her”

“if I wasn’t 18 and wouldn’t go to jail I’d beat the **** out of her idk how she got away with not getting beat up yet”

“lol I wanna stick that bitch lol”

“nail her to a cross”

“We can make so many jokes about this dumb bitch, but who cares #thatbitchisgointohell and Satan is gonna rape her.”

There are, sadly, many people like that in the world. Not all Christians are as nice as you think you are.

I'm not denying the atrocities been committed in the name of certain religions, I just think that those religious groups took their religious umbrellas in their own hands...In Christianity the Bible does not teach us to kill someone if he does not want to accept Christ.

That's wonderful, but doesn't change the fact that over the past couple of centuries, Christians have used their religion as a vehicle for a lot of killing and violence. Do you want a noddy badge now because finally your religion is realizing it cannot get away with whatever it wants to any longer?

This is hardly grounds for generalization Copa.
You don't think there's atheists feeling the same way about Christians? People will always stay ppl, no matter who you are. Some folk take things too far or they were influenced negatively by radicals.

I am not generalizing, I am responding to your seeming notion that if people are real Christians, they are all going to be as nice and fluffy as you perceive yourself to be, missing the point that there is no 'real' Christian/Muslim/any religion, but every individual gets to claim and believe that they are of the one true faith.

Those people responding to Jessica Alquist were her peers in her community, as well as local political figures, not radicals at all.

Militant angry atheists write scathing criticisms of religion on their blogs.

Militant angry religious folk threaten people with death and violence, and sadly these threats are carried out on occasion.

Exactly that! If someone is a real Christian, saved by the grace of Christ, he or she will not want to hurt and kill people in the name of religion.

You've missed my point, which is that every religious person believes they have it right.

And each and every one of them are mind bogglingly arrogant in thinking that they are correct to the exclusion of anyone who doesn't follow their particular holy text in the same manner they do.

And I'm the one often accused of arrogance, simply because I point out there's no evidence for any of it...

Absurd.

LOL this is one thing you are never going to get Ekstasis to realise. He seems incapable of it.

It is one aspect of him that I find very repulsive.

There is evidence but you have chosen not to SEE it.

There is evidence but you have chosen not to SEE it.

Evidence is not something you choose to see or not, that is not how it works.

So you don't need faith to believe?

In which case, please, provide this alleged evidence, be my guest...

You are talking big, now follow it up.

Can you?

*edit*

In any event, more importantly, whatever you claim as evidence, you will have to explain why this does not count when faiths other than your own claim validity using the same sort of experience.
