Weltevreden Park FTTH Sign up

Hey, I am not sure if this is allowed but I've made a Facebook group to show support or the demand for Roodepoort Area (Weltevreden Park).

Please feel free to join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1682497495368410

Regards,
Hi. There is already a task group under the leadership of the ward councillor for Weltevredenpark to bring FTTH to welties. Please PM me so we can all work together on this. We are now working with Vumatel and we are meeting one of their directors/founders this weekend to work out what the approach should be.

If you look at the Telkom FTTH rollout in Randpark Ridge (on the Welties side) you will see it pretty much stays on the north of Jim Fouche. However, the rollout has moved across Jim Fouche and they are digging on the Randpark Ridge side of Ouhout Avenue.

This means that the official map is not up to date in terms of their plans.

As much as I would like Vuma to deploy in Welties I think it would be better to push Telkom to expand its FTTH rollout from Randpark Ridge and it is possible that they are already planning to do that but they just haven't told anyone, because we all know how good they are at communicating.

you sure its fibre to home and not the fibre to wireless rollout?

See this is the part I don't understand. Everyone is harping on 123Net but people are too apathetic to sign up and return the contract. If you didn't return a contract I don't see you as having a right to complain. If you don't like something then strike it out. If there's something you want in the contract then add it. Contracts are negotiable and you don't have to accept whatever someone shows you. At least make some effort to show you are serious.

Well put.

Difference though, from what Ive gathered about Vumatel is that as soon as you reach the 30% interest target, they start trenching, and launch an activation campaign. You will see them in your neighbourhood and you will want to sign the contract to land the fibre across your wall. Different strokes.

In my case that is not what happened, after complaining here, emailing and phoning them they still havent sent me a contract. I know of one other person that they did that too as well. I dont think they were really interested or serious in providing a service here.

I would not say it happens immediately after you reach your target, as they will have to apply for wayleaves, however they do start applying when it is clear that the target will be reached soon. I have found their approach very good overall, and they are willing to work with communities, get onto facebook groups, and even set up a twitter account. Printing flyers as well. it really has been a treat. They are very professional in their approach to getting fibre laid

We met with one of the Vumatel founders today. Update from the meeting:

Dear Residents,
We had a meeting today with one of the founders of*Vumatel, Johan Pretorius. Vumatel is a telecoms company that has rolled out Fibre to The Home (FTTH) to a significant number of suburbs in Johannesburg, namely, Parkhurst, Parkwood, Greenside, Killarney, Riviera, Parktown North and Saxonwold. They are presently constructing in Willowild, Linden, Blairgowrie, Hurlingham Gardens, Hurlingham, Bryanston, Emmarentia, Victory Park, and Glenadrienne. Northcliff is included in the next wave of rollout which will potentially see construction sometime in March 2016.

Our discussion centred around how Vumatel can assist with a rollout in the wide expanse of Weltevredenpark, considering the geographic size of the area. Vumatel have thus agreed to create portions of the greater Weltevredenpark, and that these portions will follow the boundaries of the Residents’ Associations in the area for a phased rollout, depending upon which portion will get to the 30% interest signup target first. This means that Weltevredenpark will be apportioned according to the RAs, namely:

Constantia Valley RA
Panorama Residents Association
Welridge Residents Association
Riverwel Residents Association
Devon Valley Residents Association

It is envisaged that the soonest that construction can begin once the signup target for these portions is reached, would be in*June 2016.

Councillor Ingrid Reinten and the Fibre Task Team that has been assembled will work closely with the RAs, body corporates in the area and the School Governing bodies in the area for the wider fibre signup effort and rollout.

According to Vumatel, the government funded schools in the area will receive a free 1 Gigabit per second fibre connection to the school, as well as a free data package from one of the ISPs on the Vumatel network. Schools in the area were identified as:

Panorama Primary School
Weltevredenpark Primary School
Allens Nek High School
Constantia Primary School

Activation and marketing content will be provided by Vumatel at their own cost to assist with raising awareness in the area and increasing the number of signups for the service.

There will be Townhall events, and presentation sessions to provide information to residents leading up to the rollout processes. Residents will be kept informed through this website as well as the Facebook pages and RA Whatsapp Groups. Data package details will also be communicated along with the marketing information.

For now, residents are encouraged to continue logging their interest on the Vumatel website at https://vumatel.servicezones.net/johannesburgnorthcentral/WeltevredenPark

Kind Regards,
Councillor Ingrid Reinten

How would one know which residents association we fall under?

The RA chairpersons have their boundaries, these would be overlayed on the map that Vuma have. You only need to signup with your address and you will go into the count for the RA in which you belong.

The RA's may also show their boundaries in their respective websites. I have seen that Welridge have theirs.

Thanks. We will compile that information and send to Vuma within the week. The better outcome is that the signup targets will be reduced because of the portions. Easier to get to if we drum up interest in each of the RAs.

Looks like I fall under Riverwell so registered on their site. Holding thumbs.
