We met with one of the Vumatel founders today. Update from the meeting:
Dear Residents,
We had a meeting today with one of the founders of*Vumatel, Johan Pretorius. Vumatel is a telecoms company that has rolled out Fibre to The Home (FTTH) to a significant number of suburbs in Johannesburg, namely, Parkhurst, Parkwood, Greenside, Killarney, Riviera, Parktown North and Saxonwold. They are presently constructing in Willowild, Linden, Blairgowrie, Hurlingham Gardens, Hurlingham, Bryanston, Emmarentia, Victory Park, and Glenadrienne. Northcliff is included in the next wave of rollout which will potentially see construction sometime in March 2016.
Our discussion centred around how Vumatel can assist with a rollout in the wide expanse of Weltevredenpark, considering the geographic size of the area. Vumatel have thus agreed to create portions of the greater Weltevredenpark, and that these portions will follow the boundaries of the Residents’ Associations in the area for a phased rollout, depending upon which portion will get to the 30% interest signup target first. This means that Weltevredenpark will be apportioned according to the RAs, namely:
Constantia Valley RA
Panorama Residents Association
Welridge Residents Association
Riverwel Residents Association
Devon Valley Residents Association
It is envisaged that the soonest that construction can begin once the signup target for these portions is reached, would be in*June 2016.
Councillor Ingrid Reinten and the Fibre Task Team that has been assembled will work closely with the RAs, body corporates in the area and the School Governing bodies in the area for the wider fibre signup effort and rollout.
According to Vumatel, the government funded schools in the area will receive a free 1 Gigabit per second fibre connection to the school, as well as a free data package from one of the ISPs on the Vumatel network. Schools in the area were identified as:
Panorama Primary School
Weltevredenpark Primary School
Allens Nek High School
Constantia Primary School
Activation and marketing content will be provided by Vumatel at their own cost to assist with raising awareness in the area and increasing the number of signups for the service.
There will be Townhall events, and presentation sessions to provide information to residents leading up to the rollout processes. Residents will be kept informed through this website as well as the Facebook pages and RA Whatsapp Groups. Data package details will also be communicated along with the marketing information.
For now, residents are encouraged to continue logging their interest on the Vumatel website at

Kind Regards,
Councillor Ingrid Reinten
