Just for the sake of interest. I'm doing a little research as to which Antivirus software is the most popular among PC enthusiasts. Please include:

1.) The name and version of the AV?
2.) Have you ever experienced any problems with it?
3.) Has your PC ever become infected?

Once again this is just for the sake of my own curiosity. ;)

1) AVG Free 7.5 (Don't like version 8)
2) Never had a problem with v7.5
3) Yes, but was detected straight away.

A poll maybe?

1.) Mcafee Total Protection for Small Businesss (Compliments Standard Bank, doesn't say which version though:confused:)
2.) Never
3.) Yes, but detected and deleted the threat immediately

1. I don't use anti-virus
2. No problems whatsoever
3. Virus-free since 2003.

Antivir Personal Edition

1 Antivir Personal Edition 8.1.0.308
2 No Problems!! :)
3 No infections only warnings and deletions :)

1. NOD32 version 2.7 + AVG Free 8.0.100
2. No problems at all
3. No lasting infections, only a few detections.

EDIT: And yes, I know of the possible side-effects of running two anti-virus programs at the same time ;)

Last edited:
1. Busy trialing ESET Smart Security (previously had AVG 7.5 + Kerio 2.1.5)
2. No problems or performance issues (though I did have to temporarily disable my NIC during installation for some odd reason)
3. This pc, none. AV has caught a couple of dodgy files I got from dodgy friends :D So its doing its job.

1) ESET Smart Security V3 (NOD32 v3 on all the other PC's)
2) Never had a problem with any version
3) Yes, but was detected straight away.

You just can't beat NOD32

YIP nod32 8/10 supasses anything i have seen and used including norton av 3/10
Kaspersky 7/10 avg 6/10 bitdefender 2/10.

1. Eset Nod 32 v2.7 (Laptop), Main pc at work Eset Smart Security v3.0, Other work pcs AVG free (upgrading from 7.5 to 8 today), One work pc has McAfee
2. None that I can recall.
3. 3 AVG free pcs had minor infections dedected on scan; one AVG free pc had a major infection requiring repair install of XP (but I've got K9 Web Protection on that one now to prevent a manager from visiting *cough* unsavoury *cough* websites :D)
