Honda Accord in 1995
BMW 318i in 2012, stolen in 2013 from BMW's workshop whilst being serviced (they "lost" the keys)
Honda Jazz from 2013 to 2019

The Accord had some peculiar problems. The windscreen seal leaked water. It took 3 goes to fix it and the week after the last fix the decorative trim blew off in the wind. I had to pay for that

Wife wants a Fit Hybrid. They can only offer white cars, so will have to hold on

I drove the Fit (non-hybrid). Really nice practical cars inside with a lot of space! Quiet ride. They just feel like you should be retired to drive such a car :D. They have giant cupholder things on each side of the dash and this odd cubby thing on the passenger side.

I can't really tell yet - only have it since August last year, but so far so good. Had her first transmission service done at ZF shortly after I took delivery. Low mileage (46 000 km), but she was 10 years old at that point, and according to ZF, it was a good idea to do so.

I like both, but probably the facelifted version a little more. Wow 10 years old car with only 46k. What's the service costs like for a car like yours?

Reasons: well the train is cheaper.

The car would be madness not to get a hybrid and the waiting lists are long and this was the most affordable option if you balance out waiting time, features and cost.

We waited 4 months, for the Yaris it would have been 8-9 months.

That said, awesome little car. Boot space is not that great but it's got lane assist etc. and I'm getting about 4.5 l/100km. Can probably get a bit better if I tried a little harder.

VW Scirocco 2.0tsi Dsg - 2010
VW Tiguan 2.0tdi - 2012

Tiguan is my daily driver. Scirocco was supposed to be my weekend car. But with kids etc, we end up using the Tiguan on weekends too, as it is more practical, convenient and economical. But the Scirocco is just a treat to drive.

The S4 is on 125k
The GTi is on 144k

We don't drive either all that much. The GTi does at most like 30km a week (Wife's work is 3km down the road) and we tend to only drive the S4 on weekends for family things - or when I feel like a spirited drive.

The GTI is a lovely car to drive though - we took it to PE before I got the S4 and it really surprised me. We've had zero issues with it since buying it in 2019.

Both cars are completely paid off too - bought them cash. We are however considering selling the GTI at some stage for an SQ5.

Only basing this off my experience with my diesel X-Type, but a minor annual service would be around R5k. Add another R1500 every second year. That said, the service intervals were 20 000 km or 1 year, and with the XF diesel it's 26 000 km / 1 year. Oil capacity is 6.6L, which partly explains the cost.

Three important things to note:
1) They love going through brakes
2) Ditto for suspension bushes
3) The petrol engines have timing chains which should last the life of the engine. All the XF diesels have timing belts (180 000 km / 10 years).
 
Mine - 2014 Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 V6 TDi R-Line - Replaced my 2015 Volkswagen Golf R which I wasn't keen on keeping much past 3 years, I was looking for something from the VAG stable that was more practical, affordable to purchase, cost effective to run and relatively reliable.
Wife - 2014 Audi Q3 2.0 TDi - She wanted to get rid of her MkIF Toyota Fortuner 3.0 D4D which was a theft/hijack risk and her dad was replacing the Q3 with a new Fortuner, so they traded her Fortuner in on the new one and she took the Q3.

Over rated how, my colleague and I swapped cars for a Harties Run.
I have a 2020 Golf R, very comfortable and solid
The S2000 was the most fun I've had in years, Go-Kart-ish and enough power for me provided you revved it out to 9000rpm?
The fun part was in the corners and the noise, top down and general feel, it's rough no doubt but thats part of the fun
As a daily, absolutely not!
Still draws attention although its now what, almost 20 or 30 years old?
