Yes, people who are extremely conservative. In my experience, European quality standards are the best ... whether you're talking about the Renault Duster made in Romania, or Citroens actually made in France. The Renault Sandero I bought in South Africa, meanwhile, with its carpet staples falling out after only three months of ownership - quality doesn't come to mind.

Mercedes-Benzes made in South Africa, by comparison, get extremely high quality ratings internationally, but then that's where the class of vehicle comes in. When you're paying that much, it had better be good.

I did not use any Indian, Brazilian or Romanian made examples, in my 2 comparisons with the Koreans. Those cars will mostly be cheaper than them anyway, so they are the new value options. Their quality is worse than the Koreans and they are priced that way.

My Levi's were made in Lesotho... seems such a waste not to just make them in SA :(
Why did I bring this up?... I donno it's just been bothering me for the last couple days.

I dunno, I beg to disagree. The Romanian-made cars are solidly put together - there's a reason that Ford has just announced a massive investment into a new plant in the country. Also they benefit from Euro safety spec, so you'll frequently find traction control systems as standard. The Indian-made vehicles, however, are just really weird ... in addition to slashing every cost to meet the budget, there are really questionable design decisions there (e.g. why would Honda go for plastic armrests with a really cheesy wood grain effect in the Brio???).

The Duster is the value option, going up against the Tucson I mentioned before. Quality and spec is not up there, so yes, it is substantially cheaper then the Tucson. Tucson's quality is better than it used to be 2 generations ago, but it is not quite up there with an XV, Kuga, RAV4, Mazda CX-5 etc. Why is it priced exactly the same as them then? I would never buy one, at those prices. If you would, then I don't know...

wow what an off topic discussion we having here!

ok, so we've owned a few cars and none of them have met what their quality and country of origin should be like,
Tazz and Corolla made in SA, built like a tank, super reliable and durable!

VW polo classic mk 4, , built in SA, broke down constantly, with steering rack and air-con issues,
ford bantam, same as above, snapped an alternator clean off.....

current car, picanto, ECU replaced twice, every-time a issue to fix it, imported from Korea....
(probably DPRK:p)

so if taking my experience to account, as long as the QA of a manufacturing is done well,
a car made anywhere can be reliable....

point being is yes the Brio is made in Inda, but so is the Figo and a lot of other cars,
also remember we a LHD drive country, where most of the world is the opposite.....

besides Japan itself, and a few ex commonwealth nations very few drive on the left like we do.
so we perhaps dont have a big a market as the US.

maybe this is why most of our cars are imported from india,
doesnt mean they bad, its like saying the Hilux made in SA is cr@p overseas....

Nice post, and to end the thread derailment let's all shake hands and agree on the above point.

Quantum Theory, as for the Tucson vs Kuga debacle, I think you need to look beyond the badges ... I was pretty unimpressed with the Kuga, despite all its hype. I found rear passenger room to be abysmal, and a lot of really cheap plastics in the cabin. The VW Tiguan, by contrast, was in a much better league. Let us just agree that all motor manufacturers have good and bad models, and it's up to buyers to test-drive a few and do proper research.

Nice to see the thread back on track

Looks great from the pics & that mileage but lack of LED DRL's is off-putting & will hurt future resale a bit IMO.
