What car to get?

Well it doesn't have to be diesel. Never driven a Mazda or Opel. I am getting the car for R 90k which I think is a bargain also. Checked Gumtree. Most go for R120k

In that case, do make sure it's not a scam - hopefully it's from someone you know.

They're good cars. I think insurance might be a little more expensive as they're high risk.

I've driven both Opels and Mazdas. Never owned an Opel and haven't had the Mazda for long enough to comment on reliability, etc... but both brands feel solid and have a nice drive.

I'd recommend test driving all your options and then deciding.

R350k? What happened to the R250k-R300k pricerange? lol

Otherwise looks like an awesome ride man, enjoy it ... let's hope that "one little old lady" previous owner story is true.

I was intitially intending on keeping my current car, since its very low maintenance, but after I did some digging it seems I can get R83-R85K for it. So I'm using it as a deposit on this car.

The car belonged to the head mechanics (at VW) wife until she got pregnant. A 3 door car doesn't do well with a family :D

Ok cool, just be safe. If your previous car wasn't a performance model, be careful ok? The ESP system in a Mercedes-Benz doesn't make you invincible, and that's a lot of car you've gone and bought. Definitely not a Mazda, lol.

lol, the C180 is hardly a performance model!

That said, awesome car! Holding thumbs for bank approval

So I'm in to looking for a newish car, hopefully a demo model or newly used with very low mileage.
I don't see the point of getting a brand new car, also hoping to catch some festive/new year manager.

Aside from safety, reliability, cost of maintenance, ride comfort, fuel economy; what I do want is: automatic, cruise control

Added bonus:
-Sports pack
-Turbo/Charger, likely means better with fuel consumption
-Sunroof

My budget is around 250-300K.

I've been looking at the Kia Cerato, Mazda 3, Audi A1 sportback.

What other cars can I get which have the above features?

Consider a Kia Koup. Kia makes great cars, you get a lot of features for the price, and they are well built with good quality materials. ONLY drawback is the engines feel a bit low on power, but if you get the sporty Koup that solves that and you'll have a great car at a great price.

Obviously, but compared to whatever he had with an 80k pre-owned value, it could just as easily turn into a nice shiny coffin if he gets carried away with it at the start.

Comparing a Kia with a Merc. You are a joker.

I guess the fact that I quoted his original post and not the post about a Mercedes in a different price range flew right over your head.

Be glad that at least if you're a bit "dim" people won't say it to your face because when you spend your days working at the local IT shop with drooped shoulders, AC/DC T-shirt, black baggy cargo pants and Madonna's mascara, they'll just be too creeped out to say anything.

Thanks for the laugh.
