I'm looking to buy my 1st car preferably under R130K, 1,6, gauteng.. if 2nd hand (most likely) can't be older then a 2009 model and can't have more then 40k on the clock .. i was looking at the clio iii sport (goes for 125K and has 30k on the clock what u rate guys?)

What needs do you have for a car?

For R130k you could actually get a nice Golf 5 2.0 FSi or Auris 1.8 RX perhaps if you lucky. They come with all the features and more than adequate power (110kw and 100kw respectively). The Toyota obviously will be cheaper to run and maintain with similar performance, also on insurance it will be cheaper, the Golf is the better car though. No experience with French cars, but the general consensus is that you stay away from them due to poor reliability and resale values. Not knocking them down as I like the French vehicles, but as I said.....general consensus.

Other alternatives are a brand new Yaris (new shape), you can get easy discounts from Toyota or a Polo Playa 1.4 (if you can get discounts).

Good luck

Golf 5 2.0 Fsi 09 with less than 40k on the clock for R130 000? Unlikely.

The Clio sounds like a decent deal brand. Despite what is said about Renault, they are decent cars, I think the service may leave a lot to be desired.

I am sure you could also get a low mileage Kia or Hyuandai. Maybe a cerato or i20.
