What do you do during load shedding?

So annoyed, got my new phone yesterday and was starting to set it all up when the power went. So guess I will not be getting my new phone online until tonight, if I have power. Really ticked me off as I was kind of excited to finally upgrade.

Nice one. But why not just set it up at work?

Got a small 750W generator that gives power to the Router, TV, Android box and one light. Stove and geyser are gas so live just carries on.

Quick Q to you all router backup experts. So i have a small backup that I use on my B618 router (the backup battery that comes bundled with the B315 router). Is it wise to leave it plugged in all day given how frequent loadshedding has now become. The usual power cable is plugged into the backup battery while the backup battery is plugged on the other end into the router.

Meaning router is being powered by the backup battery which is in turn connected to the mains. Is it wise to leave it this way or should i just hook up the battery only when necessary?

That's how battery backups are normally supposed to operate. I'm not sure about this specific one though. But if you have to do it manually, then your connection wouldn't be uninterrupted, which (if you aren't home) may be a problem.

In general it's not good for a Li-Ion battery to be kept at 100% charge all the time, but how not good it is depends on the specific battery management. Modern laptops, for example, will charge to 100% then not charge again until they go down a few %. Not sure about the one you've got.

Batteries attached to a UPS are usually the lead-acid kind, which can happily be kept at full charge for three to five years, like a car battery.

Should have posted a pic or added more details - this is teh router backup battery. Its a HW-Li2.6Ah-C batteryScreen Shot 2018-12-06 at 5.03.00 PM.png

We only have for 2 hours at a time. If I'm home alone when the lights go out I usually pull out the gas stove and light up a hubbly session. Also some form of electronics will have battery life. Either phone, tablet or one of the laptops.

There are insufficient swear words in all the languages in the world that ever were or are to express the depth of my hatred for the current round of loadshedding. I live in a *()(^&)& town I @#&*)#@* hate with a *)@#$&#@*( passion and this is just the @#$*()#@&* cherry on the top of a generally @#U*$()#@& miserable @#$*(#)@& time. I @W*()#@& hate it! My computer is the only @#$*()#& thing that keeps me sane and no power = no computer. Can't U@(#@ afford to anything about it. Used to live in such a small place that rarely had the power go off in the last round of shedding mostly because I think it was too much @#$*(#@&) hassle for anyone to switch it off. Now I live in this @#$&*()@#$&hole of a @#$*(#@) town that switches it off every single @#*$() day. And they can't even #&*()#@$&*( do it on @#$*&()# time!!!

Depending how intelligent the design is, it could have a built-in charge controller so keeping it connected should not have any negative effects.

Sjoe dude
I camp every weekend and also hike mountains on weekends.
You're more than welcome to join me down here in the Cape to express your frustrations walking Cape Point kicking Shipwrecks or even up on Table Mountain headbutting boulders, the Cable Car going back down is super awesome I must add.
We all need to unplug weekly.
Chatted to a guy last week that said that his doctor on off days actually takes his shoes off and walks around the garden or on beaches or hiking trails. All barefoot, and the reason is the airwaves are dirty and static. He finds walking barefoot 'earths' you.
Yoh, this coming from a Doctor.
Call it crazy, I do.
...but then again maybe not  why do i feel so alive every weekend camping and hiking with no shoes? mmm

Any recommendations for a UPS or inverter to power the router, tv, xbox and a few lights?

NOT a Dude so do not call me DUDE!

Cannot step foot outside my front door without shoes because of the ^&*! duiweltjies and half the time the dogs bring them in and leave them on the carpet so can't go barefoot inside either. Nothing outside but dirt and dust and more dirt and dust. No joy in living here at all. Came from green to this hellhole.

Go back. You're making it unpleasant.
