What do you feed your dog?

I was on royal canin then moved to Canada based dry food orijen dog food both expensive review on Orijen brilliant . I cannot see how either or can be sustained with a big breed though .

If you read up on hills and royal canin you will be shocked what they put in .

Currently moved over to a raw diet and boy does that make difference . Only limited suppliers in gauteng

We're alternating between Acana and Orijen for our furry kids (2x Chihuahuas and 1x Boxer). I must admit that I (initially) wasn't keen on spending R2k per month on food for them doggies but the result thereof makes it more than worth of, super healthy, coat is shiny and soft, stools are small etc etc.

Really great brand !

2 (1 cup each for Jack Russel and Pitbull) bowls of Royal Canin.

They eat when they are hungry, they don't finish it in one go.

Because I don't have a dog yet!!!

Bet you didn't see that one coming.

It would nice to know from those who posted earlier in the thread, what the costs of feeding your dog are now.

I'm not sure what to feed my husky, tried feeding him woolworths sachets after a couple meals he gave up eating it, the same goes for pedigree sachets and dry food. Although he seems to find a liking for bobtail puppy food, but last time the pick n pay was out of stock and none of the other stores I go to stock it. he's nearly a year old. Other than that he eats leftovers, lamb, chicken sometimes fish

3 pugs:

2 are on Hills Metabolic mini - to help them shed some weight - this food is magic for dogs that could lose some weight.

1 is on Hills Adult Advanced Fitness Mini.

LOL! My Jack Russel got hold of my toothbrush on the shelf somehow...still don't know how the feck he got up there >.<

Boiled chicken, that alternates between just chicken and chicken and rice, with some Hills dog food, beeno biscuits and whatever else she begs for :)

She gets two longish walks everyday, so hyperactive, happy and healthy.

Royal Canin Giant Breed Puppy for my new Great Dane. She turns money into turds very efficiently...

That must set you back a few rands on a monthly basis.

How much does she eat?

She's supposed to be eating 580g a day (increasing slightly as she gets older), which means a 15kg bag should last close to four weeks. I haven't had her for two weeks yet, and I think she's eating a bit less than she's supposed to, but we're building up to it. A 15kg bag is between R600 and R700, so it's not cheap. Big dogs like that need a good start though, so we'll stick with it for a year or so - I can always start sharing food with the cats so we can afford it... :)

I've got two Great Danes. Basically if they want something they can reach it.

We used to buy them Montego but just recently changed them to Jock Multistage, Ive been very impressed. Our one little one has always been a scratcher but she is hardly scratching anymore. She is also a very skinny dog and we struggle to fatten her up, she had rickets when a pup due to severe malnutrition, hope this improves with the new food. 2 x 20kg bags @ R350ea P/M. 1 x boerboel and 3 x township tsotsis :D

Lol Bwana, I lol'ed at the wifes shoes. Thankfully mine leave my shoes alone but have a taste for our duvet, if we accidently leave our door open and come home from work, there will be fluff and torn fabric all over the place!

R350 a month (at most)... My boy is on Montego... he will ignore it until he is hungry or until its evening time, in the hopes that we will feed him scraps and such... but that doesn't happen so he eats his biscuits quite happily.

I will occasionally throw a raw egg into the mixture, and that then makes the biscuits disappear quick smart.
