What GPU to run on 40" LCD?

Yep looking at i7 and cant remember off hand the exact board name, but the board and CPU i want is a bit pricey... bout 8.5k+! Soo still have some saving up to do:erm: oh and then theres the ram *sigh* but gotta get with the times and future proof the current setup so it can last me at least 3+ years lol! cos the old quad is getting, well, old lol! Served me well tho and still running good:)

He was running a GT430, hardly anything power-hungry.

When Haswell launches, all the Ivy Bridge stock left over will drop in price to clear out stock. Haswell itself will also be pretty good, though.

As for GPU, if you're sticking to 1080p, I would recommend:

PowerColor HD7950 3GB @ R3295

Even with the C2Q you'll still see a significant boost in frame rates and you'll be able to play any game at high or ultra settings, with AA and all the other bells and whistles. The card comes with free copies of Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. And all those games can be played with a Xbox 360 wireless controller for the PC.

For 1080p there's no reason to spend any more than that.

No offense intended to the other guys' advice but @NAG - Wesley sorta justifies one of my thoughts... which i actually didn't post... Should i really replace the Core2Quad with newer technology when a couple of guys mentioned just to get a better GPU, stronger PSU and bigger case (the old Elite 310 case will be to cramped, if not too small, for the newer/bigger GPU i wana get...) and maybe look at liquid cooling then it should run fine with *quote* "all new games" *unquote*

I'm rather more of an enthusiast than a full on gamer, tho in time might become one because i've aleady got me Xbox controller cos with the keyboard and 40" screen you tend to stretch your neck a little looking left and right lol! (dont have a cordless setup yet... but soon:p never really had the need to cos of PC remote when watching movies:D)
 
Well you could always lap & OC that C2Q and put a decent cooler on it.
 
Lol blind leading the blind there... that GPU can possibly be RMA'd by the way it's undoubtedly faulty. Any card will output to any screen. I wouldn't say a 7950 is going to be a good buy, it's very overpowered to the rest of your components. A 560ti would be better value, or 7850.

Slap new m/b (sata3) + ssd + i7 AND the 4k gpu... then it makes sense. I got the 670OC first, then the m/b (with cpu and ram) and lastly a corsair force GT. Noticeable differences after mobo upgrade and not the slight increases having a new gpu...

I'm totally blind with this so please bear with me as i try to learn, you can see that by my amount of posts... been browsing MyBB close to 2 years now and only joined forum to get help with my setup as the enthusiast part of me started getting the better of me:p

I’m a console guy (PS3) and I mainly use the pc as multimedia platform and love watching full HD movies most of the time (yes i know the ps3 could’ve done the same thing, but only bought it recently and have the pc setup now little over 2 years)... now the gripe... i use my 40” LCD Full HD Bravia as a monitor which works fine with everything else but recently decided to ruffle its feathers and gave it a go with some gaming.

You guessed it, gpu stops working after 10 or so minutes (keeps going for a good hour or so on low graphics settings:erm:)... I’ve been told the monitor/tv I use asks to much of the gpu and should rather get a smaller proper PC monitor which i don’t wana do cos enjoy the PC on the Bravia lol!

I’m also busy with some upgrades (as budget and wife allows:D) and got a bigger case, Thermal Take A31 Chaser (the old 1 is CM elite 310) and CM W650 power supply, later in the year i’ll get better/newer motherboard and cpu but for now the Core2Quad is still running fine for me.

Sorry for the long read lmao! But could you guys please give me some advice on what GPU to look at to run on the 40” Bravia for some gaming cos I REALLY don’t want a smaller monitor...?

Unfortunately you will need to upgrade your power supply and graphics card at the same time.

You dont need a high tech graphics card just to watch HD movies! come on guys...you are jumping the gun.

1st we need to look at what is causing the graphics card to fail.

1. Too much of an overclock/voltage (yes it has been mentioned)
2. iehighutil.exe virus in processes (Open your process and check for iehighutil.exe,stop it and empty your temp folder)
3. What temp is your graphics card running at?
4. Is it a no name brand PSU?

Also, for those of you who do read, check out a very recent CPU comparison by Tom's Hardware:

At the settings you'll be running, Nikkel, and for your money's worth, a new GPU will make all the difference. A GT430 hardly cracks playability even at 720p. That's possible with a GT630 or the HD6670, but the HD7950 will ensure that you've got the graphics side sorted for the next three years and the rest of your platform can only improve from there, even though a C2Q will be perfectly playable.

AMD won't be releasing anything new for the rest of the year to replace the HD7950 and since you're already planning a platform upgrade, this is a good way to start.

I got no problems whatsoever whatching Full HD movies even with the Blu ray rom, it runs fine even the sound is great through HD cable on my surround sound system, awesome actually...

Like my 1st post said i decided to ruffle its feathers with some gaming... so for those who didn't read the 1st time/1st post correctly my pc runs absolutely fine with everything else, just gaming giving me headaches...

So you can even get a 40" HD Ready TV (1366x768), that has a lower resolution than a 23" LCD screen (eg. 1920x1080 resolution)!

Kind of depends how much gaming you want to do. A 7950 is usually going to be paired with a pretty high end CPU as well, and you seem like a dabbler more than a real gamer. Anyway, it's still a great card.
