Why do you require an invoice for returned goods when it's already on your system and then try and bill a customer R150 if they can no longer find the invoice. You know the goods came from you and you know when it was sold. Seems like a money making racket to me.
because thats how all shops work, unless I'm getting something wrong. How they know you didn't steal it form the owner????
game, makro etc have similar rules.

anyhow, customer service never been their hard point but their prices are good and I've never had a problem with any products.

Wtf goes around stealing hard drives and then knows which shops to return them to when they go faulty??? Must be a physic criminal.

I've returned to stuff to makro without invoices before, I've returned stuff to many other shops without requiring invoices.

All the information is on their system, serial#, date of sale, distributor purchased from etc etc etc. The invoice adds nothing to the process.

Not having all the above information on hand is one way to run a kuk business and make your life hell.

Computer component resellers usually - usually - have all stock sold tracked by the item's serial number. This has been my experience. I can take a hard drive / memory module in, the serial number is scanned and tracks on their system to an invoice... on the invoice are my details. Voila. It is not necessary to put the customer through hoops if an invoice is missing and they have all the info needed on their system. How long does it take to scan/ punch in a serial number ?

The only time I have been asked for an invoice is when an item did not track on their systems.

There are a few resellers demanding invoices for all items, Esquire, Game + Incredible Connection... IC did however re-print a copy of the invoice once I gave them a date and they tracked the CC used.

I would think that any computer retailer not tracking by serial number is actually doing something not lekker, parallel imports or something, or is a mom-and-pops store that does not warrant my custom.

I wonder how PC Zone is dealing with the new CPA

Whats with the cash price for an item being R1199, and non-cash as R1299? I've heard from a few people that companies aren't actually allowed to do this. Does someone here know if this is allowed? PCZONE can you comment?

They are not supposed to, but clearly no one gives a fig, except those that fall for it. I'd much rather pay for a bit more for a bit of pre- and after-sales service.

On our system it does not show serial number, we do not do serial number tracking, it just merely shows the product purchased. We have so many small dealers that buy from us and direct from other dealers then return the products they purchased elsewhere to us. We send it to the supplier only to be told the item was not purchased by us but by someone else. Then they send back to us. This happens all the time and the cost involved shipping drive up and down is crazy. We deal with alot of JHB dealers so also the time involved. So it is simple and a lot of companies do it. You need your orginal proof of purchase to not only proove you purchased from us but the item is still under warranty.

. Even major retailers require you to provide proof of purchase. So don't just comment on things you have no understanding about. You need proof of purchase. It is not something we hide away from or only tell you when you return an item. At all our till points in all our stores, we have signage up stating you need proof of purchase to return any item. It is not unreasonable.

we are 100% compliant with the CPA and spent lots of time and money into getting all our terms and conditions to be in line with it. The CPA only covers items that are being returned as faulty. The CPA also states clearly you need proof of purchase.

The rule is quite clear on this. You can't charge extra if a consumer pays by credit or debit card. You may however offer discounts if you want how ever you want. We have a normal price on items and then some selected items have cash specials. So if you pay with cash we offer you a better price. When we never did this we had so many customers asking for discounts and complaining. Now that we do offer it still customers complaining so is loose loose. We just try to accomodate some customers and have some specials. Can assure you that is it totally legal. We drop the price if you pay cash (on certain items).

I know for a fact Esquire doesn't ask for an invoice, neither does Rectron and neither does Pinnacle.

Because they log using the SERIAL number they can easily see who bought the item, at what date and that it was in fact bought from them.

That is actually your problem, if you used the serial number instead of invoices you wouldn't be having that problem.

I could show up with an invoice and a hard-drive I didn't buy from you. Tracking with serial numbers is the only reliable method and also the method used by the manufacturers.

Aren't you scared holding so much cash in Pinetown?

Thanks for clearing that up. It would be better if on your specials page the actual price was at the top and the cash price underneath, sort of flipped from what it is now. ATM the general feeling is the cash price is the actual price and we're being charged extra for using a card, and it's somewhat misleading.

Personally I have no issue with this. PCZone would lose money on all credit card purchases coz they're paying a % every transaction. Instead of charging a set amount and taking a knock with the guys paying by credit card, and causing the cash clients to actually subsidise the credit card bill, they give us ous a discount who pay them cash. Feels like we're nitpicking here, seriously.

And also, really, you pretty much always have to keep a receipt/invoice at most retailers, this is nothing new. Just keep your receipts and invoices, how hard is that?!

This is how to do it.... Get home, open admin file with all your important docs, put receipt/invoice in a plastic sleeve, relax.

I see you guys speaking about the credit card fee but what about cash deposit fee's what about the risk of carrying cash, I don't get why u would encourage cash purchases!
