we are 100% compliant with the CPA and spent lots of time and money into getting all our terms and conditions to be in line with it. The CPA only covers items that are being returned as faulty. The CPA also states clearly you need proof of purchase.

I had a long hypothetical debate regarding the CPA and your openings specials at your most recent store (was it Musgrave?).

To the best of my knowledge and understanding, a retailer is not permitted to charge different prices to different people, based on race, gender, blah, blah, region, etc. - which to me outlaws "opening specials" where the other stores do not charge the same price.

I'm very curious to understand your lawyers views on this.

we have 4 locations. we grv everything in at the default location (warehouse) , that is received by an employee, you checks and signs for it, then is taken to someone, who does the grv as soon as he gets a chance. Person counting and receiving stock is not computer literate. but this could change should the system beable to work, without to much time being added on. Then the stores request stock from the warehouse, they send us a quotaion, we pull the stock out. Price it and security tag it. Then do a stock location transfer to that location. The stock transfer is given to the driver who then packs the delivery vechicle. Makes sure transfer matches the stock he is packing. When he arrives at the store, they check the stock comming out of vechicle to against what the stransfer says.

When it comes to biulding pc the stores take the order and make a sales order which is emailed to the warehouse. It is printed and technician pulls the stock as per sales order, it is then checked by a senior technician, the pc is then biult. Once biult the technician completes a check list. The pc is packed in a box, then once all biult a copy is made of all those sales orders for that store, then stock transfer is done for all the pc at one time.

ok so if you were to use serial numbers you would still GRV everything into your default location but would add the step of scanning grv.

Then to transfer location you just scan the items on the stock location transfer instead of typing them in. You can still print the stock transfer should they wish to manually check it which is good practise but thanks to everything being scanned it is MUCH LESS likely that something would be there that was not scanned or something scanned that is not there.

Then when a technician builds a pc he simply has to scan the sales order.

Ok but now don't take me the wrong way, it is your business and your life and you have free choice, if your way works well for you and you don't have issues with warranty, stock control etc then great for you, just trying to assist.

And when it comes to stock takes you have the option of doing a serial number stock take on fincon, so you literally go through the stores scanning all the items, now yes this is the longer way to do stock take but at the end of the day when items are missing this makes all the difference, you can then knowing the missing serial numbers more easily trace the item, for example, oh okay it is scanned on a sales order that left, why wasn't it invoiced etc.

and when a warranty comes up the client hands you the item, you scan it and immediately see the out invoice and the in grv so can tell if it is in warranty, where it was purchased etc.

from there it can be allocated to a CRO and tracked easily, if it is lying on the shelf and you are not sure what it is just a simple scan and bam

Did not have to speak to a lawyer about this, the CPA is a work in progress and there are many rules can be taken in many different ways. I consulted the Consumer commision in conection with it. The CPA does not prevent you from having specials for a new store opening or an a launch of a certain item. It is a guide line, and should someone feel it is unfair and complained they would look at the complaint. They would see that it is indeed a new store opening so they would find in our favour. This is very interesting you bring this up because how to the BIG guys get away with this. Banks still offer certain products only to new clients and our telephone provider still advertise on TV stating for new customers only. Yet on all the seminars I went on they stated this was not allowed. Guess people on try take on the little guys and leave the BIG guys alone.

I sincerely apprecaite any help or advice. Like i say maybe we not that hot with fincon. Wish they had an office here in Durban with support guys that could come out. Just looks like lots more work scanning here scanning there. We do so many items that dont have serial number or barcodes. That we would be scanning some stuff but not other stuff. Think that why some of the big guys make there own serial numbers to stick on items, but then that just more cost involved and pricing goes up. But as soon as our birthday sale then Christmas period is over will seriously look it this. Thanks so much

There are a few differences between price discrimination based on demographic or geographic vs. tenure of relationship - not that I agree with the whole "reward the new guy and screw the old guy over" way of doing business.

The CPA is law, not a guideline, but the concepts haven't got precedence to provide insights into such scenarios (and I think thats what you mean).

I would love to have a "boston legal"-kinda court case over something like this - as I'd argue an opening special is something fairly arbitrary - and nothing has impacted your pricing except location, which as I say the CPA outlaws.

Maybe a resident lawyer on mybb could provide insight?

www.ade.co.za - for serial numbers

we also have certain items that do not get serial numbers but the majority of our items do and most of them come from supplier with working scannable serial numbers on.

the adjustment will certainly involve a lot more work and will seem like major effort but it will pay itself off in the end.

Good luck with whatever your decision may be. Should you need more help just post here.

I have just notice PC ZONE username has gone red...

An official Welcome to MyBB is thus in order ! Good to have you on board.

been for me like that since this morning

Heheheh... some forumites are just sharper than others !! :D

/smacks monitor upside the head
/blames Windows 8 driver issues...
/clears coffee stains off upside the head smacked monitor
/runs out of excuses for not noticing !

Thank you, I will try stay in touch as much as possible

can i recommend that if you know you are busy that you perhaps set your notifications on pm to go to email so if someone sends you a pm you can get the mail letting you know (i am sure this is possible)

On our system it does not show serial number, we do not do serial number tracking, it just merely shows the product purchased.

Erm, so when the guy took the item from me checked the serial number on the system and said 'yes, it's on here' I was imagining all this?

I can understand that you won't have serial numbers for a lot of things but this device and it's serial number was definitely on your system and the guy could even pull up the invoice (if I was willing to pay R150), all this while I was watching the screen.

I'm beginning to believe I'm making this stuff up, must be going looney.

Something is very fishy here. How could your staff locate the item on the system and then print me a new invoice without any details from me? I have no invoice remember and it was a cash sale. I just gave him the item and he went with the serial number on the device....

Lines were said to be long this morning, right until around 1:30pm. Some guys apparently stood hours in the lines this morning.

I was there are 2:30pm, the line was short, it took about 15 minutes to enter the store.

@ABU, what did you get and pretty interesting line was short after 2pm, perhaps today alot more buzz :D though i suspect rAge has something to do with it :p

Thanks to all who supported our Birthday sale. The lines were not as long as previous years due to having a third store this year, so was split up quite nicely. Thanks to all for there patience and understanding. Queues moved pretty quickly at all stores. The long waits were only really for the ones who came reaaly early to get in first. Thanks again to all. It was a great success.

Glad to hear this :). Quick question if you don't mind, will you consider offering an online store with courier options as we have seen some retailers do now? It makes it convenient :)

WE are in the process of getting a proper website made. WE are looking at offering online ordering. We are busy working with a courier company aswell, and slowly offering delivery options. Currently to JHB, Cape Town and around KZN. We are hopping to launch our website early next year. It depends on what the designers come up with and what the owners want. We are working on it however. Thank for your interest.
