What I like about Windows 8

I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying it, the more I use it the more I love it. I must admit though, without Start8 I would probably get very frustrated, but having the start menu back makes it for me.

As for Metro I am getting into it. Downloaded a few apps off the store and its actually pretty sweet. News 24 in full screen, nicely laid out is great.

My honest opinion to anyone is give it a try before you listen to all the haters out there.

You running it on a Surface tablet?

There are tools out there that allow you to synchronise your desktop background to your Start screen one. This makes the transition back and forth between Start and Desktop feel a lot more integrated. It eliminates that sense of jumping between places ...

Basically your app launch menu overlayed on your desktop, very much like LaunchPad in Mountain Lion.

Sure the look is subjective, but functionally its a darn sight faster at getting to occasionally used apps in comparison to Start->Programs->Menu->App. And once it becomes reflex to click left-bottom or hit Win key, launching your often used apps is pretty much as fast as those pinned to the Taskbar.

Nice thing for me is you can clearly segregate the launching of new apps vs the switching of running apps, my Taskbar is completely empty if no apps are running. Each to their own I suppose.

My desktop that has been running it for a year seems to disagree.

Exactly, Windows 8 is a PC OS that adapts well to tablet and desktop form factor PCs.

Mat- are you still doing much dev? Any touch screen stuff lately?

My desktop, on the other hand , said "WTF is this crap??" and proceeded to vomit Win8 out onto the floor tiles. Can't blame it, really.

Your PC decided that tiles belong on the floor ;)

Yup, developing for W8 and WP is my job :)
Love touch screen stuff, but for W8 apps I develop on both desktop and touchscreen to make sure it works nicely everywhere.
