What is "expensive" biltong wise?

Don't think u want light .... U want heat. Just a thought
Yeah - but the two usually come together. With incandescents becoming increasingly difficult to find someone should come up with a dedicated heating unit.

yeh isn't 15 or 18 or something the same as 100w traditional bulb? lol
Maybe not quite that bright :)

you mean like one of those heaters you put in for pets that are kept in a tank?

don't know anything about it, so wonder how warm they can make the interior of the box, if you need about 28-30 degrees

Those that make their own biltong, what do you use to slice it?

I don't make my own, but don't ever buy sliced unless I'm going to eat it all in the same day. It just dries out when you buy sliced.

Something worth looking into!

You have the ability to keep biltong for tomorrow? Something must be wrong with you. LOL

You lot should stop complaining, I paid £30 a kg for some this morning from a local butcher, so R650ish if I convert. (I'm not a big enough eater to make my own).

He does a really good job though...

No biltong is worth that much.

You can import it from my house for cheaper :D:D

At the price per kilo of the raw meat and then add the spices and the biltong box, doesn't it make more sense to just shop around till you find a butcher that makes biltong like you like it and buy it there?

Is there some esoteric thing in making your own that I'm missing?

What's your salary compared to the average joe here ;-). Yeah my brother also gets the cravings sometimes, where abouts did you get your biltong from? Can let him know.

Not many local butchers make biltong here, and this one that does is much better quality than the mail order makers down south. He also sells a decent boerewors and some really good steak so it's a worthwhile trip, got some monster t-bones today as well.

It's a local-ish butcher on South Tyneside. I don't see it as that expensive, I don't really have a salary anymore as I work for myself, but it's about what I would consider around an hours wage.
