Hey, folks, I've returned to WOW. I'm playing on Darkspear PVE EU and my ping is currently erratic. Me and my fiance are sharing a 384 DSL line to play WOW and we use Axxess Uncapped. 2 years ago, we used a normal 3gig Telkom 384 line and our latency was very stable 500-600 ish.
But now that I'm with Access, its all over the place. Is it because I'm using an uncapped account? Should I rather just get a regular capped account again? What about shaped and unshaped packages? Please recommend me an ISP ideal for WOW.
Thx folks, all help really appreciated!

P.S Ive done the tcpack and tcpnodelay tweaks

t'aint nothing wrong with axxess at all, I raid with it on a 384k line. however, its only good for one person at a time. 2 people suing the line slows things down considerably. the way blizz sends info has changed somewhat since 2 years ago.. I would say if u both playing wow, at the same time, upgrade your line

I might be wrong but uncapped is shaped as far a I recall and wil be erratic. Axxess lite the R19 a gb prepaid is a good option. Have used it a while and get consistent 300 - 450 ms

i would say get 4mb line, much more stable for 202 or atleast 512K, from mweb.

mweb also only isp that offer free wtffast account with there package if you need it :)

afrihost unshaped and axxess lite both performed worse than a normal telkom shaped account in wow , im on EU - Twilight Hammer
just my personal experience

Mweb capped account is currently working very well for me, especially after they added their CT link. I use a proxy too so i'm raiding with about 250ms on a 384 line.

Webafrica Home Pro - which is optimized for online gaming.
I play on EU Twilight's Hammer with 180ms to 400ms - Webafrica without Home Pro - 300ms to 600ms.

WebAfrica. I don't have any fancy proxies or packages. Just the Complete 7 (up to 10mbps and 30GB ADSL) and get sub 300ms.

Currently on mweb 4mb uncapped. i can download all i want an still raid with 250ms give or take. its perfect for what i need.

Any Afrihost or Mweb capped unshaped packages will work hundreds.

Im currently on OpenWeb 384k Uncapped Gold, but have been using Lite for about 6 months.

Me and my wife both playing at the same time with around 400ms latency.

Just to make that worthwhile an explanation, we play on US servers...

hey Ph@tom...

I used to have my account with AXXESS. they were fantastic, unshaped at R20/Gb. and i got 450-550ms ping to Darkspear-EU.
But it got a bit expensive couse i was downloading about 50Gb/month. wich works out to R1000 just for data!
I have gone from AXXESS uncapped unshaped @ R20/Gb to the Openweb Lite 4Mbps uncapped.

With Axxess i had 500-700ms pings to Darkspear-EU... since i have changed i now get an average of 250-350ms pings...

The only thing is that once you have logged on the connection takes about 2-3 minutes to "settle" and thereafter it is smooth sailing...

The best move i have ever made...

have a look here (http://www.openweb.co.za/index_uncapped.asp)

"Uncapped LITE, The account is UNSHAPED.
Why Lite?

If you are a gamer, and do not download 24 / 7, Lite offers you unshaped ADSL access, which allows you to enjoy the benefits of the internet without being slowed down. VOIP works Great. Don't get us wrong, P2P and torrents will be a breeze, until you enter the 20% bracket, upon which they will be drastically shaped."

so the bottom line is...

I have done a average of 200+Gb per month and I am getting 250-350ms pings in WoW!
and the package only costs R495 per month unshaped and uncapped ... i am really impressed.

wtffast

mweb also only isp that offer free wtffast account with there package if you need it :)

hi mate, can you explain what "wtffast" account is? is it a proxy to EU servers? does mweb set this up for you in respect of they do some tunneling for you on the wow port range?

the wtfast account same as you bought one from wtfast, but this account only works on mweb i.p address and locked to your account.

yes is proxy service.

yes mweb will pm you details to use for the account, more info if you pm will@mweb on mybb.

mweb all ready setup wow to be high priority on network so its kinda of unshaped all ready but sometimes problems does happen :)

I'm with Nexus, 4MB Uncapped: Use the Latency fix: seldomly over 420ms latency - EU, Twilight Hammer

Any person taking his raiding time seriously and currently raids for progression guilds will also tell you its almost a requirement to have a backup ISP account, for those bad nights when things just go wrong.
The pay as you go options are best suited for this... I have my main Mweb uncapped account, with a backup WA 1 gig, and also a ISP account on the IS / Seacom network.

Since its a once off cost with no contracts, its a good idea to have one or two handy :)
