What makes a sim just die?

Three Telkom sims died on me in the previous four months, the sim won't log on to the system. The phone is Samsung A3 2016.
What could be the reason for the sim to just die and how can I prevent it in future.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thought your Sims was comiting suicide.

None of my TM sims have died, my first 8ta had issues. It might be your device but hard to say, without you using other providers sims for extended time.
 
try not keeping them in your pocket right next to your....s
 
Hehe you jokers, got a new sim, all's working fine again until the next time. All your trolling didn't help.

Ah.....well thanks for your humorous contributions and thanks to Supersunbird who at least made a genuine effort to help.
