I just bought that Speedlink Gaming mouse for R300 from TakeAlot and then in the next month or two will look for one of the Logitech ones again. The Speedlink one is nice and fits my hands well so happy about that.

Did the same with the keyboard, bought one that I will use until I find something better but will see when it arrives.
 
May not be everyone's cup of tea but I really enjoy the MS Natural Ergonomic kb...I started to get tingling in my metacarpal area a few years back and swopping the traditional keyboard (flat or inclined towards me when legs are extended) for the reverse-tilted MS kb really made a difference (tingling all gone).

I use a Logitech G510 at home to make sure my hands and wrists get a different angle to work with (hoping to avoid RSI with variety - it's been working so far).

Get the dongle. The pci cards look like ***. Get the ones from Raru with the antennas

Agreed. This was a big reason for me leaving the PCI card especially cause my case has a very big window and you'd definately see it. Ongoing to try build the cleanest build possible so the less the better.
 
So the case should finally be arriving by Thursday (taking longer than expected but ph well).

Before it arrives, should I swap the mobo I currently have for the ASRock Z97 Anniversary Edition I currently use in my Plex Server PC or is there no real benefit over the Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H (Rev 2.0) that I got with the bundle?

Please let me know so I know wether I need to swap them before I start building my new PC.

Yeah it seems that way but been a long waiting game for parts to arrive :(

Parts have taken forever - the GPU box is already forming dust on it...

I got the bundle from PotterH but with a i5 4570 CPU (the original CPU he didn't have stock and would have then had to wait even longer)

Sapphire R9 380X GPU

Corsair VS 550

Corsair Carbide Air 240 (White) - still waiting for the case to arrive tho :(

I just want to know if it makes sense swapping the Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H (Rev 2.0) mobo I got with the bundle for the ASRock Z97 Anniversary mobo I currently have installed in my Plex server or if it just be a waste of time?
 
Z97 is the better specced chipset - for example, the Asrock supports faster memory (3100+Mhz versus 1600Mhz), 6x SATA3 versus 4x SATA3 + 2x SATA2, more USB3 ports.

It's wasted on your Plex server...I'd move the Asrock to your main PC.

Raw performance without overclocking or using better-specced memory would be the same.

Yeah I thought it might make more sense to swap over the motherboards. Especially now before I build my new PC. I think even just for the future maybe if I do decide to get a "K" version CPU.

All that runs on the Plex server is Plex and downloads so will just backup the library, do a quick swap and then fresh install.

I will then order some thermal paste so that I have when I need to swap over the CPU and cooler.
 
Performance wise it's gonna make no difference. I think the B85 even has 2 PCIe slots.

So what you suggest I do?

I am easy either way to be honest - won't be too much work to swap over either (I have a 250GB drive that only has my OS installed on the Plex server so thats quick to re-install) or can also just leave them the way they are?

I agree that it will make no difference in performance now, but if it's not that much of a issue like you said I would switch out the better board for your main PC now, instead of in a couple of years when you decide you want a K CPU.

The Gigabyte has does have 2x full size PCIe slots, but I don't think you are going to use crossfire GPU's at any point?

I think there is more of a chance of me getting a better CPU than getting a second GPU to crossfire to be very honest.

Then i say switch the board now rather than down the line, as you said the server is basically just the OS and Plex, so it shouldn't be much of a hassle to reinstall.

Yeah, the main drive is just the OS and Plex Server files so will just backup the Plex Meta-Data and then do a re-install.

First need to get some thermal paste, will this do: Cooler Master HTK-002

Then I will hopefully change boards tomorrow and then hopefully my case arrives Thursday and can build my new PC on the weekend.

It just makes sense to me to be honest and the ASRock Z97 board looks alot nicer to look at :)

Do you know anyone nearby whose DIY'd a PC? Almost everyone has thermal paste lying around...it's difficult to use the stuff up.

Good luck with the build...no wearing wool jerseys on the weekend!
