Yeah maybe.

On another side note, is there meant to be like a buzzing sound coming from the PSU? Not sure if it from the fan or the back but definitely from the PSU and is very annoying!

Both my Corsair PSU's are dead silent.
 
Yeah the one in my server is silent. This sound just started a while ago all of a sudden. I first thought it was my external HDD so quickly unplugged that but the sound was still there.

After looking I see it's my PSU. It's still making the sound now even once shut down.

That doesn't sound good, is it grounded properly, i.e. are all the screws in and tight, maybe just remove the power cord and make sure it's in there good and deep.

After a quick google, it seems it could be an issue called "coil whine" it affects some PSU's and GPU's.

I have powered down and the sound still there. If I remove power cable, the second I connect it again, the buzzing/ticking starts. It's definitely in the PSU.

Not sure what to do.

I'm not sure what to tell you, it might go away on it's own, it could've just been the luck of the draw, or the PSU can be faulty and you need to RMA it.

It literally started about 45-60 minutes ago. The sound is really annoying.

What little I know about PSU's I can only think it's the copper of the coils vibrating. Like I said I can't really tell you if it's just the luck of the draw or if it is in fact faulty.

Sounds like another call to Rebel Tech.

That's what I'm dreading. I've built many PC's in my life and not even all of the combined has given me this much trouble. If the sound doesn't go away then it will be another 2 weeks without this PC.

It's as if once the first problem is sorted out then something else goes wrong.

Make sure it's not just the PSU vibrating against something inside the case, check to see if the fan is working, maybe just give it this weekend as a break in period to see if it goes away on it's own. Otherwise contact Rebel Tech.

I guarantee when you started this thread on the 26th of January you didn't think you would still be busy in April.

The PSU has been working in the PC last couple of days without issue so that's why it so weird to me.

If I had known what I do now, I would have had a lot of spare cash in my pocket :)

Remember the last couple of days you didn't have the GPU, it's now causing extra load on the PSU which in turn is causing the coil whine, from everything I've read it sounds like there is no guarantee whether or not you will get coil whine, my advice is to give it the weekend to settle in, if nothing changes contact Rebel Tech and tell them, from the way you describe it sounds really loud.

I'm sure when everything is done you will be very happy with the final product, the road to getting the final product not so much.

Yeah agree, going to give it the weekend and see what happens. It's really luck of the draw from what I've read and of course I drew the short stick.

The sound is really annoying. Once you hear it you can't un-hear it.

It won't cause any problems, maybe just keep a eye on the temps, all the program is going to do is absolutely push your system to its limit, if the coil whine would have gone away on its own this will just speed up the process of "breaking in" everything.

Will give it a try and see what happens. Won't run it for too long tho. Will let you know what happens.

You can just run Open Hardware Monitor and minimize it to the tray before you start the stress test and after you just open it up again and check the CPU Package and GPU Core min and max.
