Yeah the more I think about it the more sense it makes going for normal size boards etc.

So you reckon thats a good deal on the CPU and mobo? Which mobo you think is the better one?
 
Are the CPU's PotterH sells not better than the i5 4460 this guy you mentioned is selling?
 
The i5 4590 PotterH sell is faster and cheaper yes, just mentioned it as I don't know if you need a system urgently or can you wait for PotterH to receive more stock.

Ok great. So it will make sense to go for the i5 from PotterH then.

I'm not sure when he will be getting more of the combo deals so it looks like I will have to buy the items seperately.

What mobo you think is the best and most cost effective vs features and will last the longest.

I will go for the 8GB ram you mentioned earlier.
 
weelz... you're spending so much time deciding, all the good deals will be gone and your bundle will cost you another 1k more by the time you decide due to the ZAR tanking some more :p

ASRock B85 PRO - R1279 it has every possible port you will need now or in the future, 6 SATA, 12 USB ports, including front USB 3.0, everything you will need with room to add parts in the future when/if need be.

It does make sense to buy the CPU from PotterH, you just can't beat his price, but you will probably have to wait 2+weeks for him to get stock.

Yeah I saw that board, looks good.

Will contact Potter and see what he says but if I have to wait then it not a problem if it a week or two.

Do you think it makes sense to add a Corsair H100i watercool to the system for the CPU if I can get it at a good price or will a normal cooler make more sense?

The H100i will just be fancy, since the CPU can't overclock you probably won't see 70°C even with the stock Intel cooler, unless it's a really good price.

Yeah that's what I thought. I can get one for R900 in good condition but I suppose for that I can put towards bringing the final cost down.

The board also doesn't support over-clocking (I presume) so no point really then?

Is that in reference to the ASRock board? The board itself does but MS did something to disable overclocking awhile back (I remember reading about an update that removed overclocking on non-Z chipset boards).

I would check if there's a workaround...it was a couple years back at least so it might have been overcome or rolled back by now.
 
PotterH sold me a R100 cooler for my i7-4790 and it seems to work fine. Max temp I've seen is about 80 odd degrees (I'll double check) in 35 degree ambient temperature.

No point except the fact that it looks really cool :D

From a quick check it actually does look like the board can overclock, so in a couple of years you can get a 4790K for cheap second hand and OC it and you are good to go again for way less than a full upgrade.

Ok cool. Didn't look to deep to see if overclocks so that's good.

Will see how the rest of cost on build goes and if I can get it cheap enough, might as well cause then can use it if I ever upgrade again but that will be on the "bonus item" list.

I also read that, but it was in 2013, I didn't do a whole lot of research now but I see Asrock still release BIOS updates regularly, I'm sure there is a way.

So I went to checkout my basket on TakeAlot only to be told this motherboard is no longer available :(

Any other suggestions? Preferably from TakeAlot as I have vouchers but if I need to purchase it elsewhere (if the price and specs are better) then I will.

I really can't find anything that was the deal of that board, Gigabyte Intel H81M-S2PH or Gigabyte 85M-HD3-A, with one you lose 2 SATA 3 ports and two memory slots and with the other you only lose 2 memory slots. The one also has 1 PCIe x 16 slot and 2 PCIe x 1 and the other has the obsolete 2 PCI slots,1 PCIe x 1 slot and 1 PCIe x 16 slot.
