SO this is what I have then:

Core i5 4690 (PotterH) - R2300

ASRock H97 - R1645

Sapphire R9-380X - R4899 (still torn between going for the 380X or the normal 380 - there is a R1000 difference)

Corsair VS550 - R820

Cooler Master N400 - R978 (not 100% sold on this case)

Transcend DDR3-1600 - R759 (I take it DDR4 won't work)

Anything I should change? I see it just under R1500 over my initial budget.

Everything looks great, I wish it was my new build. Just remember you need a HSF for the CPU.

DDR4 won't work.

The 4GB R9 380 and the 380X is only R437 difference, if you go for the 2GB R9 380 you are really doing yourself a disservice.

It's the exchange rate eating your budget, if you bought a couple of months ago you would have saved a lot, but this system will really keep you happy for a long time. You won't be disappointed.

It depends on the games you play, but overall it is the better buy, especially if you're only seeing a price difference of R600. If the price gap is closer to R1000 though, go for the R9 380, it's still a damn fine card for 1080p gaming at the highest settings.

So PotterH replied saying - "I could do the same bundle with a 4690 i5 for R3999 or i5 4570 for R3200 incl shipping."

I am just worried the i5 4570 might be too outdated or not worth it? If I buy the 4690 and ASRock board plus RAM separately it won't be too much more than R4000 and thats all brand new. What you suggest?

The original bundle but now with a 4690 for R3999?

I say still go with the build we made up for you, It's a better motherboard and everything new for just a couple of bucks extra, go for new.

Yeah I agree.

I was looking at the bundle for R3200 but with i5 4570 but I see that CPU is 3 years old already so worried about how long it will still last.

Going new will be roughly R4600 so just making sure the difference of R1400 is worth it?

Don't you have a Takealot voucher that will also bring the price down?

Wouldn't worry about the age too much, the thing to keep in mind is:

4690 is 3.5GHz and Turbo 3.9GHz
4570 is 3.2GHz and Turbo 3.6GHZ

if your CPU stays cool enough it will permanently run at the Turbo frequency, meaning the 4570 at max will be only slightly faster than the 4690 at it's slowest.

Yes have about R1500 in Takealot vouchers which I can use for 1x 8GB ram stick. I don't think any of the items are available at Takealot?

They used to also have the PSU but it looks to be sold out, you can also browse through the cases on Takealot, you might see one you like, but other than that it looks like your new PC is basically done.

Yeah I will take a look at the cases. Still with the voucher it brings the mobo and cpu cost to R3900 which is the same as potterH was offering.

I have a Prescott Pentium 4 that still works perfectly well. CPUs have very long lifespans today, easily reaching over 15 years. I don't think you need worry about the CPU's age.

Also, the CPU you're looking at is from the Haswell generation. Broadwell saw a near-5% boost over it, and Skylake adds on another 10% performance boost over that, but that's noticeable in workloads unrelated to gaming. It's still a very, very fast chip and more than enough power for what you're going to be using it for.

Edit: Honestly, though, buy second-hand for the CPU at the very least. We're all just getting shafted with the incredibly high prices we have to pay now. A Core i7-4790K is not worth the asking price that it commands online.

Nothing wrong with the 4570, age is not a factor here and the motherboard will do what you need. Motherboards add zero to performance, it's all about features and I've learned a long time ago that most of them are wasted in my particular usage scenario. I would go with potters bundle for mb/cpu&ram if available.

I haven't seen any Broadwell chips - only haswell and skylake. Skylake seems a little pricey at the moment.

If I could find a good deal on second hand chip I'd definately go it.
