Then I would really rather go for the ASRock H97 Anniversary with the other boards I just don't like the 2 PCI slots, I don't think any company still manufactures PCI cards, with the H97 board you at least get PCIe slots, but then you don't have a voucher to use. You will have to see what works with what you want and your budget.

I was just looking at this board now. I actually have this board in my other PC that runs my Plex library (have the Intel Gxxx CPU Anniversary edition i think it was called) so might just go for that board again.

I can always buy the other things using the vouchers.

I wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to just buy a cpu and graphics card and use that as my PC? I will obviously still run the plex server off it or is that a bad idea?

I don't want performance to go down or any other complications?

That actually doesn't sound like the worst idea, what PSU does that PC have?

I'm thinking at the least you save on buying a motherboard and case, you might have to also upgrade the PSU, you then buy the i7 4790, you will then save a bunch of cash, have a faster PC and if Plex direct plays you won't even notice it.

So the i7 will be better over the i5 if I decide to just upgrade my current Plex PC and use it with Plex still running?

It has a Corsair VS450 PSU currently.

The i7 will be faster, higher clock speed and multithreaded, you will probably save around R1000 if you decide to just upgrade your current system and have everything run off of it, or you can spend the R1000 and have two independent systems.

I would personally, if I had the budget, go with two separate PC's, each purpose built for a specific task.

Yeah agreed. I just worked it out and would save between R1-R2k so not really worth it in my opinion.

So I will just go with the original i5 etc?

Yes, all the original stuff and just the new motherboard since the other is end of life.

Just want to confirm the GPU is still the best at the R4000 mark:

They both the same price so a little confused between nvidia and AMD so hoping you can point me in the correct direction.

I really just want the best card available for around R4k - one that will last a long time with games, video and photo editing etc.
 
R9 380 is still better value than the GTX 960. This graph is taken from TPU's review of the R9 380X Strix.

In that price bracket the 380X would be the best, Sapphire is one of the better brands for AMD and would still be <R5k. Thing is the next level up, GTX 970 & R9 390, starts at around R6k.

OK great thanks. So will go for the 380X then especially if the bump in performance vs extra R600 over the normal 380 is worth it.

The 380x scales almost perfectly in price/perf from the 380.

Sapphire for AMD, is like EVGA for nVidia. They are the preferred choice and get all the cool stuff first.
