I have a size 42 LG LCD TV which is set at 16:9. However when I set my TopTv decoder to 16:9 the picture is distorted and stretched. I have to set it to 4:3 to display correctly? Is this correct? Do I get the best picture for my size screen this way?

Hope someone can help :D

Yes, TopTV airs everything in 4:3, so if you have black bars on the left & right then the aspect ratio is correct (called pillarbox)
If it takes up the whole screen then its stretched horizontally

Unfortunately it makes your 42" around 35"

TopTV currently don't broadcast in 16:9 so when you force it, it stretches the 4:3 image to accomodate, obviously making it look all distorted.
Keep your TopTV set on 4:3 and your TV on 16:9.
The TV will letterbox the 4:3 image correctly. (Honestly, I don't know if vertical cropping is still called letterboxing but I assume it is.)

Ah, thanks Smurfatefrog .... you already answered my question. Pillarboxing. I like it.

If you set TopTV to output 16:9 you should be able to set your TV to Full or whatever they might call it because the decoder should have inserted the black bars. I have however seen it go wrong on some channels even though the content is clearly 4:3.

I'll double check my settings in a bit.

Thanks guys, I dont know what I did but the decoder is on 16:9 and the TV screen looks fine!

Also have a large LG and the pics have gone small suddenly ?
Dstv .
Some are smaller sideways and top and bottom . Some channels just top and bottom.
Set at 16.9
Any idea how to fix it ?
