Looking for a game similar to baldurs gate/ icewind dale. Have been away from gaming for a while and am looking for a good traditional RPG, not First Person (ie: Oblivion

The newest I can think of is Dungeon Siege 3 (well kinda similar) and it sucks... hard.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wait for Diablo III...

Or try Titan Quest / Sacred / Sacred 2

*edit: I forgot about Dragon Age...

dude, i know EXACTLY where you coming from being a HUGE icewind dale and baldurs gate freak myself :p

if you looking for something along these lines you are in for some serious disappointment Im afraid. There is, however, some light at the end of the tunnel

if u have steam, install it and go grab the Dragon Age Origins pack

http://store.steampowered.com/app/17450/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1

its $60 which works out to R420 but i PROMISE YOU, it will be the best experience ever. Add onto that all the DLC and its one of the best gaming experiences ever.

Forget all this teenie bopper, console port, cheap development bull$h!t

anyone try argue I'll pwn you!

:D

edit: play the game like Dragon Age 2 doesnt exist. Its basically a console port for retards (no offense guys, but you cant begin to compare it to the first one). It's grossly watered down and the gameplay is totally arcade like, its pathetic compared to DA1. i WILL NEVER FORGET (or forgive) when I loaded up DA2, like 1 hour after finishing the entire DA1 and expansion, and I was like WHAT IS THIS KAK!?!?!

it got plenty of good reviews, but that means stuff all. Just goes to show what kind of base the developers are aiming at these days. God help us all! :D

Off the top of my head: Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Jade Empire, The Witcher, Knights of the Old Republic, Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Planescape.

Most similar to Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale would be Arcanum and Planescape.

Planescape being, in my humble opinion, the ultimate RPG.

Thanks everyone for input, will try dragonage 1, Played a few of those Lycanthrope, planescape torment was one of my favourite games of all time although showing its age terribly.

i think you can try 9dragons which is a popular and newest game at the moment.

Start playing WOW!!! You might lose all your real friends but dont worry, you'll make new ones online. The best part is you will never need or want to play another game

I played through Mass Effect1 and Mass Effect2 again last week. Just went through the main quests. Think they are still my favourite games of all time.

Dragon Age was Epic, I would hold on till day 10 of the Steam Summer sales to see if it shows up.

I got Two Worlds http://store.steampowered.com/app/7520/ on Day 4 for only $17. and Torchlight http://store.steampowered.com/app/41500/ for only $3

I gave up beginning of the year after 6 Years of WOW... Yes you wont look at another game for some time and the bonus is that now I have 6 years of gaming I can catch up on, and with the Crap FX WOW has a 5 year old game does not look dated for me at all. :)

What about the Neverwinter Nights series? Its a little old but since the last thing you played and enjoyed was Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter would definitely satisfy the urge... Neverwinter 1 was one of my favourite RPG's of all time.

Its not top down RPG and I dont know the series but I see Gothic Complete Collection is on Sale at Steam for $18 thats R122 for 4 Games plus the Expansions (Offer ends 7PM tonight)

See http://store.steampowered.com/sub/7653/ for details.

Update: Oh well after watching the Video I decided to add it to my collection anyway. Might play it some day seems like a semi mindless RPG where your actions wont stuff up end game and it looks like good 20 hours of game play on episode 4:)

Listen to these men. Arcanum is an excellent game. I too am a huge fan of these games, good heavens I miss Icewind Dale and the like. I would also suggest the first 2 Fallout games, they're not party-based but still provide an experience similar to BG etc.

Neverwinter nights 1 was brilliant.
