What supplements do you take?

None aimed at workout, but still:

Calcium
Vitamin D
Folic acid
Multivit
Cod liver oil
MSM
Theanine
Creatine

Also Ashwagandha and Tumeric extract but will probably get rid of those.

I take CalMag. I need the Magnesium boost to prevent cramping when I swim long distances.
yes, I could get it from bananas, but I don't want to eat that many bananas.

Why do you bother taking Omega 6?

You shouldn't take it actually. The two important parts about Omega 3 and Omega 6 are that you take Omega 3 in the right form (you need EPA and DHA, both of which are only found in animal sources) and that you get the balance of Omega 3 to Omega 6 right. It should be something like 1:2.5.

The problem is that because Omega 6 is found in almost everything you eat that contains fat, most people eat far too much Omega 6 relative to the amount of Omega 3 they consume. Peanut butter, sunflower oil and olive oil, to name a few, all have significant quantities of omega 6.

I don't take it specifically.

Told wife to buy my Omega capsules from pharmacy and she bought 2 bottles of Omega 3&6 combined in a tablet.

Will buy just normal Omega 3 when these are finished. Not going to waste them.

Incidentally one of the benefits of Nutritech's Casein product is that it contains enough calcium to meet my daily requirements. And it is the right form, being derived from milk.

I much prefer buying an organic turmeric powder and mixing with coconut oil / butter and black pepper (peperine) into a smoothie or with cocoa powder or energy bars or something like that.

Vitamin B12 and DHA to supplement my plant based(vegan) diet. Tried some vegan protein powders but I cant stand the taste of chocolate flavored peas so stopped that. Focusing more on eating enough plant based protein which isn't that hard to do.

Consider getting a decent brand (The Real Thing is good afaik) that does heavy-metal / contaminant testing of their oils. They're not really that much more expensive and I'd rather just be on the safe side.

That green powder I mentioned is a source of B12 & iodine...kill a few birds with one stone :).

Oh yeah I take regular shots of B12.

Ive heard good things about fish oil pills so I'm going to continue to take it even though I don't really notice much but maybe internally it's working.

Also i dont go too expensive on supplements although whey can be pricey (R700)...

Nah was just wondering :).

I rotate these / as needed:

The Real Thing Bone Revolution 1 - good absorbable form of calcium, trace minerals, vit D etc.
Vitamin K2 (MK4 & MK-7) - use this in conjunction with the above mainly for bone / teeth health.

The Real Thing Chlorella
The Real Thing Green Powder

Zinc
Magnesium
Vitamin C
Cats Claw
Artichoke leaf extract
Reishi mushroom

A few herbal products on & off...Bacopa, Lemon Balm, Passionflower, Albiza, Schizandra.

A few nootropics.

Lol alot of herbal stuff hey

explain? cost of all the individual supplements bought separately work out more expensive. The convenience of having everything in one pack keeps me happy...

One and a half thousand Rand! I mean holy flip!

You could buy everything you needed for much, much less.

They all have sufficiently detailed monographs and pubmed entries to make me satisfied with their efficacy. Anyone who dismisses something just because it's a 'herb' is as irrational as a homeopath :D.

From Dis-chem
2 x Evening Primrose Gold caps
2 x Multivitamin Gold caps
every day.

I should try some herbal stuff and see how it goes, I used to drink green tea... Not my favourite for sure
