What was your experience regarding Afrihost's capped accounts?

I have a OpenWeb Titan Uncapped 2Mbps account. Initially I quite liked it, but the problem I have with it is it's shaping/contention ratio. During night time I can easily do work requiring internet access, but during the day the account is shaped quite badly. I am therefore looking for a quality capped account that will be unshaped 24/7.

I have been looking at Afrihost's capped account, and from what I have seen it seems to be good, but looks can be deceiving. That is why I am asking what has your personal experiences been with capped accounts? If you have/had Afrihost capped, would you recommend it?
 
Why not just move to an Openweb capped account? I prefer the IS backbone Openweb uses to the Afrihost accounts.

I've also heard good things about Vox capped accounts, but they're not the cheapest around.
 
My experience being capped has been good thus far.

Openweb's capped accounts are just as cheap as AH. I'm currently using a 20Gig capped and that I keep for day time use and it works 100%.

Moved away from Openweb because of their non existent after hours service, no android app or proper client zone. And you get stuff like mifi devices from Afrihost. Openweb killed my Internet even after like 5gb on cheap uncapped.

Now I am on 50gb+50gb afrihost capped and it is full speed all day.
 
The "Double Data" promotion looks amazing, but my issue is that it has a timeframe. It is going to be reviewed in a few months and then I might possibly only have 50GB per month if the company decides to take away the Double Data.

I am also looking into the Uncapped offerings that Afrihost has to offer, although it is hard to make a decision considering one never truly knows when you might be throttled due to the dynamic limit assigned to downloading. I am also a bit sceptical of the "semi-shaped" statement and how it would compare to OpenWeb that most of the times become unshaped night times and over weekends
 
Depends on your needs. I think all of these are good:

- Afrihost (Anytime 'unshaped' data) - torrents will run at full speed any time
- Web Africa (Shaped, offers night data) - found streaming to be slightly better when comparing to Afrihost capped
- Vox - only heard good things about them especially with regards to streaming.
- Cybersmart - you can see if one of these test accounts are still active - they seemed quite good when I tested http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/607962-Cybersmart-ISP

I would suggest getting a free capped account from Afrihost and Web Africa and see which one works for you.

nooo,
not cybersmart.

They don't like releasing lines once hosted
and
they are bad at stopping debit orders

they are good at not always giving you internet.

There is a reason why you do not see threads (currently) complimenting them....

Shared [capped] accounts ftw.
 
Most ISP's are just resellers using IS. Seems that SAIX ISPs are not that easy to find anymore, but luckily MTN now emerged with Afrihost and Axxess and a few other smaller ones.

So at the end of the day ...

* Afrihost Capped is good (very good pricing and unshapped)
* But I sometimes get better latency with IS to euro gaming servers.

I would say for MTN backbone go Afrihost or IS go for Openweb/Webafrica and all the other millions.
I currently have an IS account with Gridhost which also host my websites, billing is easy and the ADSL account is super cheap and works great.
