What was your first car

A lovely hand me down from my dad in 2012.

A 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 4.0 Limited

It guzzled petrol from its 80L tank, at a rate of around 18l/100km, lol. Great car, had heated seats with memory, sunroof, automatic etc... Great when you are a student and your parents pay for petrol, but it got ugly when I started working in late 2014 and I had to put ~R950 of petrol per fill up which was every 1.5weeks from my own pocket.

Ended up writing it off on a stupid night out. I walked away without a scratch, the car took all the damage.

2003 1.2 Renault Clio II in silver. A very under rated and under valued car in my opinion. Never let me down.

We had loads of company cars, I always go to drive what was not being used.

The first car I bought with my own money, in the early 90's, was a Alfa Rome Alfetta 1.8 was a early 70's model.

What a car, very advanced for its time, had disks all round, back ones were mounted next to the diff. Gearbox was in the back with a long prop-shaft from front to back. Had height adjustable head lights and the steering wheel was adjustable as well. Had those little triangular windows on the front doors that you had knob to turn to open them at a angle, wonder why they dont make them any more as they worked very well. The motor had 38 sidedraught carburetor that sounded so cool when the air filter box was off. It was a hoot to drive, the RWD was fun in Swakop on the salt roads at night time and throwing doughnuts in parking lots.

Cant call yourself a petrol head if you have not owned a Alfa Romeo. It never broke down with me. Alfa Romeos have a soul.

^ we had exactly the same. that thing moved. But hell , you're lucky. My dad had to open the engine, took the head off, saw parts of the aluminium was eaten away. Put silicone in , all back together, sold it.

My first was Ford Escort 1,3gl, 81 model. Bought in 96.

Same here, but the 1.6 GL. Had the worst carburetor ever.

Golf Mark 1 Chico or what ever it was back then (1992 model i think).. paid for with my savings and the little unit trusts I had at the time. Had about 100k on the clock but did me wonderfully through my student/party years.

My first car was a 1961 VW Beetle, which I bought for R300 in 1969. It served me well until I traded it in on a brand-new Datsun 1600.

1991 COTY Delta Motor Corporation Opel Monza 160 GSi - if this was a "Dream car thread"

Unfortunately, I had a VW Beetle. It kept breaking down, and was generally quite rubbish.

Toyota Tazz.

Never hardly ever broke down and cheap as chips to fix when it did.

2000 VW Citi Golf 1.3. Other than the normal maintenance and an alternator replacement, didn't have any issues with it whatsoever.
