Having just driven mine yesterday for the first time I feel like kid with a new playstation. I only drove around the block a few times though since I'm not taking chances till I have insurance.

It was a Fiat Palio 1.2l R30k

What was your first car?

1990 Mazda 323 1.3 (didnt even have headrests) R22k (Purchased in 1995). Sold it in 2000 for a 1996 Opel Astra 200i for R48K (8 valve - pre Euro edition). That thing hauled ass!

1992 Opel Kadett Cub 1.4.

Light Blue. We revered to it as "die moffie blou". :)

hauled being past tense? what happened to it?

1977 Mazda 323 bought for R10 000. Sold it for R7000 a few years later when I bought my father-in-law's Ford Sierra.

Silver Honda Ballade 1.5L, R30k of which 70% was from saving and the rest financed via a personal loan as no one would give me finance, paid the loan off in 2 or 3 months.

I loved that car, only schite it ever gave me was a worn water pump that packed in two days before a trip to CT, had that replaced the day before the trip for about R600-700 at some dodgy looking place in durban close to the old willovale hotel but they were the only guys that could do it on short notice and they were cheap. Still felt nervous going on the trip but it all ended up fine. She eventually died a horrible death in pine str. after taking on a toyota and a robot :D

Oh, and the woman loved that car, always got asked if it was my parents car though :o

Ford Escort 1600 Sport. Red one. Cost me R5005 spanking brand new in 1982
Edit. I had a Chev Firenza 'loaned' from my dad before that ;)

2001 1.4l Ford Fiesta, that I bought mint in 2005 for R45k. Sold it to my sister 2 years later. Still running strong today. No issues at all.

1996 Hyundai Accent 1500...think it was about R40k. Got it in 2005 for Uni.

Sold it and got a 2007 Polo TDi Classic in 2009. Most awesome and fuel efficient car. But the KMs are getting high now, so Monday I might go and buy my first new car - Hyundai Elantra. Plan is to keep it a good couple of years (4/5) and then move into "bug boy" world and get an Audi/BMW.

Ps. Buying a car hurts your pocket soooo bad oO

That is an epic first car, my father wanted me to get one of those, but all of them have been brakpanned.

Hell yes, I'm paying my father back over two years because I did not have enough saved up. Even so he asks no interest and I'm paying back like R600 pm so it's nothing.

My first new car (I had previously owned a 1960 1200cc VW Beetle) was a 1970 Datsun 1600 SSS. I paid R1,600 for it off the showroom floor. I drove that all over Southern Africa, clocked up over 200,000 km on it, and sold it up in (the-then) Rhodesia, in 1978, for Rhod$ 1,500 ... which back then was equal to about ZAR 1650 .. more than I originally paid for it :D

My first car that I actually bought is a new 2012 i10 (I'm 37 and never owned my own car before).

I have driven "loan" cars in the past but generally avoided cars when I can.

My first car was a yellow mini 1100, have no clue about the year model anymore.
Bought it in august 1989, My first tank of fuel cost more as what I paid for the car.

Drove it for half a year when it didn't pass roadworthy anymore (In the Netherlands cars must go for roadworthy every year already since the 80's)
