I am not sure what wireless router to buy for my home use(single story house).
I do not need it to be a adsl modem but maybe in a year's time I want to put in adsl.
What make do I go for? Is wireless N better or is it still not what it should be?
does duel channel really have such a great effect on speed. I will be sharing files on the wireless network and stream media.
there is just so many stuff out there and it is really difficult to make a choice. I don't want to buy another router after 6 months. may the experts please give me some pointers...

With wireless N you will need an adapter to fully utilize it, or most newer laptops come with wireless N support.
I run a SMC Wireless barricade N 4 port wireless connected to D-link 2500u modem - very fast

You won't go wrong with a Billion.
Wireless N is a definite for faster speed.
Dual channel won't hurt either.
Also make sure it has 1000x (gigabit) ports.

Whatever you do, do not get the Billion BiPAC 7300GRA
Worse wireless router I have ever used, wireless disconnects randomly even with full signal, or it will connect but no internet or networks are available.

So I cannot connect my old laptop to it unless it also has wireless N? do one get wireless routers that is backwards compatible?

Have you tried upgrading the firmware? I had the same problem until I upgraded the firmware.

what do yo think about this product?

Billion BiPAC 7402NX

Oh, i see it has no integrated modem.

Do one get these routers with integrated modems that is not too expensive? Or is it not worth it. I am still using 3g a lot..

Did you do anything special? Do you have encryption turned on? Mine works fine when the encryption is off, but not with any of the encryption methods.

Haven't updated the firmware though, will try that thx.

Hi Janplank
You can get the Billion 7800GZ - its a 3G/HSDPA embedded ADSL2+ wireless 802.11g VPN firewall router.A new model from Billion, its features are amazing. Please check the link above! The 7402NX its a USB 2.0 port for 3G/HSDPA,ADSL 2+ wireless 802.11n firewall router. Those are good routers, just think about getting one of those.;)
Hi Gargmel
change the channel ID on your wireless configuration on the router.Remember you can use channel 1,6 and 11.It can sort out your problem. :)

What router should I buy

Hi,

I am also looking at buying a new ADSL router and find myself a little bit stuck on this topic. I have to idea where to start looking and what to be looking for. What are good routers and what will serve my needs.

This is the main things that I want in the router:
  • wireless
  • must be able to run route sentry (think that means that it needs bridge and halfe bridge mode). I need to be able to have the router connected to the internet (for the other users in the house) and then from my computer I want to dail a connection with route centry.
  • 1000GB lan connection (this is more of a nice to have, but it would really be nice to have :p). The wireless speed is not so much of an issue and dont think that I will need the wireless N routers.

I have been given 3 routers by a computer company that they have available.
  • D-Link 2640 U
  • NetGear DG834G
  • Duxbury 5300

Currently I have the MEGA WR100 wich works nice, but you can not do much with it and therefore need a upgrade.

Would really appreciate if someone can help me out a bit.

Thanks!!! :D
